It was rather easy to come up with 3 NHL picks since the sportsbooks were able to establish 13 betting odds because of the NHL schedule for today. First let's recap yesterday before moving ahead.

Yesterday, I was 2-1 with a pair of road underdog winners with San Jose and the New York Islanders but still have work to do to as hockey handicapper to make a fourth consecutive winning week.

Because of when this article is posted and me being out West, those afternoon games are not up for long so, thus I will pass on game write-up, but I will be on those hot New York Rangers for NHL picks at -125 at Ottawa, where the Blueshirts have won nine of 12.

Nashville Handles Winnipeg
After a 7-1-1 start, the Predators have not been nearly as effective with 2-2-2 record. When breaking down the issues for Nashville (9-6 SU), it has not been just one aspect, with offensive shortcomings a few times and poor defensive execution in others. If you want to point to one aspect in the past half dozen contests, it is a lack of consistency.

However, it's not like Winnipeg (8-9 SU) is playing the Edmonton Oilers from the Wayne Gretzky days. The Jets have lost four in a row, one in OT, and are a wreck defensively in allowing 17 goals in this slump. This has helped lower Winnipeg to 24th in goals allowed in the league.

Heritagesports.eu opened Nashville as -150 money line home favorites and Pekka Rinne is expected to be in net for the Predators and he is 7-1-0 with a 1.75 goals against average in eight lifetime starts vs. Winnipeg. With the Preds 24-8 after playing a game where four or fewer total goals were scored, I like their NHL odds to win.

In Sunshine State Showdown, Take Tampa Bay
You don't hear much of it in hockey like the NFL, but Tampa Bay's lethargic play which has them at 8-10 SU, has many who comment on sports wondering if the Lightning have been struck by losers remorse in losing to Chicago in the Stanley Cup Finals last spring.

The biggest difference is where did the offense go? Tampa Bay with its fine array of young talent who can all skate and create open space and odd man rushes and was the top scoring team in the league last season, yet are just 24th thus far at 2.33 GAG.

Last season nobody was better on home ice than the Lightning at 32-8-1, but they are off to 3-4 start this season. The Florida Panthers (6-10) might be the elixir Tampa Bay needs, having beaten Florida in 14 of 17. Goalie Ben Bishop is returning to form with 1.52 GAA in his last six starts and is 6-1 versus the Panthers. Grab the Lightning at -160 before they go up.

Stars Shine at Home Against Minnesota
In spite of Dallas having the most points in the Western Conference, they are just a -130 home ice favorite over Minnesota. Maybe this should be a warning sign for Stars backers whose club is 13-4, taking on the Wild who are 10-5 SU and on three-game winning streak, having gone to locker room winners of seven of nine.

Minnesota has matched up well with Dallas the past three seasons, being victorious in six of nine, including twice at American Airlines Center in last three visits. Nevertheless, for money (I'm the one betting it) this is different Stars group, ranked first in scoring and second in power play effectiveness and they have won 22 of 29 versus Minnesota at home and this season they are a perfect 9-0 having won two of past three.
