I mentioned yesterday there was not a lot of great options from the NHL odds. Today I see greater opportunity for success and view a strong day for NHL picks.

After having a pair of back to back perfect day, seemingly no week would be complete without an OT loss, which Detroit suffered at home last night, but this hockey handicapper is still grinding out a good week of profit with 8-3 record, however, as Chris Farley said frequently in 'Tommy Boy', "Oh, that's going to leave a mark!"

The NHL odds you will read in here are from SBR's odds.

Kings Close Road Trip Successfully
Los Angeles (20-11 SU) spent the first part of the season playing mostly at home and are in the midst of evening that out. Tonight concludes a six-game road trip for the Kings and after playing San Jose at home Tuesday, starting next Saturday, they close out 2015 with four away contests in six days.

Tonight, L.A. will focus on finishing the excursion with fourth victory against stumbling Toronto (10-20 SU) squad. The Maple Leafs play of late is classic the glass is half full/half empty thinking. The good news is there 27th ranked offense has scoring 15 goals in last four games. Yet the reason Toronto has split those four contests is they allowed 13 scores.

The latest odds have Los Angeles as -165 favorites after opening at -180 on the money line. It is worth noting that teams that fall in this manor in this price range have won 11 of 14, thus for NHL picks, the Kings close the road trip a winner.

Dallas Offense Shines vs. Montreal
The Stars might lead the NHL in scoring at 3.34 goals a game, but they have been a little inconsistent of late, being shutout at St. Louis a week ago and scoring only once against Calgary on Thursday. Opposing teams have focused on two of the top scorers in the league in Tyler Seguin (42 points) and Jamie Benn (41), who have been held without a point in Dallas' (23-9 SU) past three setbacks. The Stars power play has also gotten downright chilly with two goals in 30 tries and they have tumbled from 2nd to 5th in man advantage situations in the league.

The positive take for Dallas is they are not Montreal (20-13 SU), who has dropped six of seven and seen its once enormous lead in the Atlantic Division whittled to three points. Though the Canadiens defense has not been letter perfect, the real problem has been the offense, which has scored as many as three times once in nine contests and has averaged 1.66 goals a game in this span.

With Montreal's lack of offense and Dallas 8-1 this season against winning teams, like them as -170 home faves.

Colorado Climbs to Another Victory
The Avalanche have won four in a row and seven of nine and done so in a way not many would expect from Colorado (16-17 SU). It has been the Avs defense which has led the surge with only 14 goals surrendered (1.55 GAG). Goaltender Semyon Varlamov has gotten in a great groove. Two months into the season Varlamov was 5-8 SU with a 3.28 goals-against average and .887 save percentage, but now is melting the ice with a 1.14 GAA and .965 save percentage, leading his team to 6-1 record.

After starting December 6-0, Edmonton (14-19 SU) has lost their last two and is hoping to at least finish four-game road trip 2-2. The Oilers are going to have to find players to stretch the net, with two total goals in past two contests. With how Colorado is playing defensively, Edmonton might not have many answers. Backing a team like the Oilers at +135 is problematic when they are 2-17 away after scoring one goal or less in their previous game the last two seasons.
