The sportsbooks made our job really easy today because they did not have NHL odds on the Calgary and Washington early this morning, this leaves three games to choose from, making it quite simple.

Rest assured this will not happen a lot, that Toronto, Buffalo and Colorado all won on the same night and in more spectacular fashion, each was on the road! Fell short of my goal of 3-0 day with Vancouver losing, but will continue to grind the rest of the week to seek a fourth straight of winning week of NHL picks.

Let's check the three NHL odds we have to work with from Heritagesports.eu and dig up more winners.

Pittsburgh Clips Columbus
After 0-3 start, Pittsburgh has won 10 of their next 13, yet everything does not feel right about the Penguins just yet. We are used to Pittsburgh (10-5 ) being an up and down the ice high-flying team, putting constant pressure on opposing defense. Yet superstars Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin have been stuck in neutral and the Pens are only uncharacteristically 25th in the league in scoring at 2.27 goals a game. Crosby is off to the slowest start of his career with just two goals and Malkin has only four and none in his last five contests.

However, the sight of a Columbus uniform might perk up both, as Crosby has 20 points against the Blue Jackets (4-12) in 20 regular season contests and Malkin 14 points (six goals) in 10 appearances. The Penguins opened  as -185 home favorites and have won 10 of 14 on home ice against Columbus. Also, the Blue Jackets are in a bad spot, having lost a third period lead to Vancouver on Tuesday and are 0-7 after allowing two goals or more in the final period of last game this season.

NHL Pick: Penguins -177 at Heritage

San Jose Wins Even Strength Battles in Detroit
Conventional wisdom for hockey handicappers making sports picks says Detroit is the play. The Red Wings (8-7 SU) have won four of five and their defense has only given up nine goals in this stretch. San Jose on the other hand teased the hockey world with a 4-0 start, but us despicable 3-8 SU since and star Patrick Marleau has been doing some grumbling and pouting, making matters worse.

A large part of the Sharks (7-8 SU) problem is special teams, with the worst power play in the NHL at 11.4 percent (5 for 44) and their penalty killing is also substandard at 77.1 percent (21st). Put this up against Detroit, who is tied for 8th when a man down at 83.3 percent and they have scored in 10 of last 31 power play attempts.

Even with all this, I think Sharks will have some bite at +105. San Jose has every season to be confident facing Detroit, having won seven of eight at Joe Louis Arena and are superb 11-0 in road games after two or more consecutive losses the last two seasons. The Red Wings have been winning but after 1-0 victory Washington, they are 1-10 at home after allowing one goal or less since last season.

Free Pick: Sharks +102 at 5Dimes

Tired Islanders Find a Way in Anaheim
Even if the New York Islanders (8-9 SU) wanted to spend a day walking around nearby Disneyland, they would not have time, since tonight is their third contest in Cali in four days. The Islanders are 1-1 thus far after 2-1 setback at Los Angeles last night. But the Ducks have been far from mighty at 5-11 SU this season with four of those losses coming in OT.

When Anaheim won four straight, most thought they were shaking lethargy, but consecutive 4-3 losses home losses to division rivals Arizona and Edmonton cast doubt on where the Ducks are headed.

Honestly, this is a hard call, but with Anaheim floundering and 0-4 off a Pacific division defeat this season and the Iles 11-3 in road games playing third contest in four days the last three seasons, I will grab the +125 with New York.

NHL Pick: Islanders +125 at Bet365
