Good day in the NHL on Sunday with an attractive, but short, slate to choose from. Join in on the fun as we break down the odds and find the best NHL picks for the day.

We will try to finish the week with five winning days out of six and have what appears to be three strong NHL picks.

Before attacking the NHL odds, just wanted to point out why Dallas gives no indication of being a true Stanley Cup contender. Two days after allowing six goals at Arizona, the Stars could not hold a 3-1 lead on home ice over Boston and were outscored 6-0 over last two periods in 7-3 defeat. During the course of the season, crazy things happen to all teams, but this keeps occurring to Dallas, which is a very negative sign once the playoffs arrive.

Anaheim Owns Calgary Again
There is playing your best, then there is what Anaheim (30-27 SU) is doing. The Ducks flew for over 7,500 miles during seven-game, 11-day road trip, winning five times. Right before taking this extended adventure, their underachieving offense began to finally click and the results have been dramatic. In Anaheim's last 15 games, they are 13-1-1 and have scored an NHL-best 53 goals (3.5 per game) and gone from scoring under two per contest to 2.44.

After the long sojourn, the Ducks are home for the first time since Feb.5th to face Calgary (26-31 SU). If you include last year's postseason, the Flames have lost 24 in a row at the Honda Center, last winning there on Jan. 19th 2004, which was about two weeks before some Harvard student named Mark Zuckerberg started something called - Facebook.

At last look Anaheim was a -200 home favorite and with Calgary having the worst special teams in the league, have to back the Ducks.

Rangers Back on Winning Track
This what fans of the New York Rangers (32-25 SU) have been looking for, consistent effort on both ends of the rink and while it might not always lead to a victory, it always give them a chance. New York is 6-1-1 in their last eight outings, with losses to division leaders Los Angeles and Chicago. Though the Rangers are stilling missing important players due to injury, others are stepping up like Derick Brassard and Mats Zuccarello, with Brassard registering 14 points (seven goals and seven assists) in 10 games, while Zuccarello has 12 points over that span.

Henrik Lundqvist is presumed to be in the cage against Detroit (29-30 SU) and it would take a rather strange occurrence to keep him from playing, since he has beaten the Red Wings four straight times at Madison Square Garden with a minuscule 0.98 goals-against average. Besides having no luck with Lundqvist, after yesterday's loss at Ottawa, Detroit is 0-6 playing without rest.

Tampa Bay Tumbles Carolina
After losing four of five, Tampa Bay (32-26 SU) looked to be falling into early season bad habits. However, the Lightning have caught a couple breaks and tonight chase a three-game winning streak in Carolina (27-32 SU). Tampa Bay needed OT to fend off Winnipeg on Thursday after holding 5-3 lead and Saturday afternoon found out Marc-Andre Fleury was a late scratch and blitzed backup Jeff Zatkoff for four scores in less than 23-minute segment for the 4-2 triumph over Pittsburgh.

Carolina has been a tough out at the PNC Arena since Christmas with a 9-1-3 record, out-scoring the opposition in decisive fashion with a 1.38 goal differential. Goalie Cam Ward has done his part in net with a 1.90 GAA in 2016 and has not lost in regulation in 10 starts (6-0-4). Ward has not been quite so fortunate against Tampa Bay with 6-12 recent record and his 3.43 GAA is his poorest versus teams he has faced 10 or more times.

Tampa Bay opened as -105 road underdog and we will back them having won 10 of 12 over the Hurricanes.
