With football on everyone's mind today, do not miss out on opportunity to look at the NHL odds in hockey or at least read this article to quite possibly build up that bankroll of yours.

Just missed third 3-0 day this week yesterday with OT loss by Carolina (what else is new), but still kept profitable trend going. In looking at today's NHL odds, nothing fancy, going to back quality teams or those who are playing quite well and hopefully keep surging with the NHL All-Star now break in sight.

As stated this week, new policy has the selections listing top play first, with choices in order 1-thru-3.

Los Angeles Wins In Afternoon Action
The Staples Center is a busy place this time of year, housing two professional basketball teams and a NHL club. The NBA can work out conflicts because they are making the schedule for the Clippers and Lakers, but the Kings sometimes are left with the short straw. Los Angeles (27-15 SU) has another Saturday matinee with the Clippers playing tonight and while it might be a bit of a pain for the players, with a 1:00 local start, the team can be home to do what they want at night.

Right now, the Kings probably do not care when they play, having won seven of nine, owning a comfortable lead in the Pacific Division and tied for the third-best record in the Western Conference. Center Anze Kopitar just signed an 80 million dollar deal and he's spearheaded the L.A. offense with 28 goals in his last 24 games.

The Kings are -210 money line favorites over Ottawa (20-24 SU), who has averaged 1.7 goals during a 2-10-1 road stretch. The Senators are 3-8 SU since Dec. 22nd and its power play has been on the fritz with two goals in 25 attempts. Pretty easy to back L.A. here for NHL picks.

Now is Not the Time to Back Off Washington
After losing six in a row, Buffalo (17-27 SU) they might be on to something with road wins at Winnipeg and Minnesota. Trying to end four-game home losing streak, the Sabres gave up three third period goals to Boston in 4-1 setback last night and next have to take on the best team in the business in Washington (33-10 SU) in town.

The Capitals latest win streak has reached five and they have left the ice rink victorious in 14 of past 16. Washington is the real deal, ranked second in scoring at 3.28 goals a game and having the finest defense, limiting the opposition to 2.09 GAG.

Buffalo is a +155 home underdog, which is well deserved since they have been beaten in 13 of their last 14 January home starts. Plus, the Sabres have dropped 12 in a row to teams that have a win percentage of 75 percent or higher like Washington. The Caps will lose again, just not in upstate New York tonight.

Coyotes Are Howling
The only thing stable about the Coyotes franchise has been the nickname, as this team has been talked about heading elsewhere several times in recent years or had a hard time finding a buyer. With ownership for now in place, Arizona (22-21 SU) and been able to pay attention to building a better product and it has paid off, particularly of late.

The Coyotes figured to be near the bottom the Pacific Division again this season, but are in second place by picking up points in seven straight contests (5-0-2) and have excelled with outstanding young players like rookies Max Domi and goalie Louis Domingue (4-0-1 with 1.76 goals-against average) coming through, along with fan favorite and captain Shane Doan.

Arizona is a -135 home favorite in rare afternoon action against New Jersey (21-24 SU), who is rocked by injures and has lost five of six.
