Having looked over the sportsbooks NHL odds this morning, time to get to work to help you find NHL picks that are winners. After a fairly normal start to the season, it has been unusual since.

Some big underdogs that are in the midst of playing poorly are find ways to ways to defy the NHL odds and win at +180 or better. Other quality teams who were presumed to be top teams started in that manner but are now in hard to explain prolonged slumps.

Most seasons in all sports have a rhythm and this NHL campaign has been more disjointed than in recent years. Anyways, let's move ahead to tonight for NHL picks and no I will not being writing about Dallas as big favorites, though I will be betting them myself as hockey handicapper.

Blackhawks Tough to Beat at United Center
As I told you yesterday, quick turnaround games are very difficult to win on the road and Chicago (15-14 SU) found that out at Nashville as I predicted. However, the Blackhawks are back home this evening to take on Winnipeg and the amazing Patrick Kane will look to continue his astonishing point streak.

Though Chicago lost, the situation was set up in that manner and there is little reason to think they cannot bounce back swiftly against Winnipeg (14-15 SU). The Blackhawks are 10-4 SU at the United Center and are expected to have Corey Crawford between the pipes and he is 8-2-1 with a 1.82 goals against average over his last 11 home games.

Though the Jets defeated Columbus 6-5 at home Thursday, they have been bleeding backers dry on the road with 1-8 SU record. The failure has been defense, conceding as abhorrent 4.11 goals a game.

NHL Pick: Chicago -175 at Pinnacle

Ride the Edmonton Express Tonight
Two days ago when assembling this article, I was all set to choose Edmonton (12-17 SU), but I let myself be influenced by other factors and went against them and was incorrect. While I fully realize I could be wrong taking them as +130 home underdogs tonight, here is why I believe they will be victorious.

As is the case with many things in life, it is about confidence and the Oilers have it right now in winning four in a row and five of six. Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle have carried Edmonton's offense of late, which has 16 goals in past five wins, compared to middling 2.52 scoring average for the season. Also, after being in the lower third of the league in goals allowed, Edmonton has surrendered only 14 in past six contests.

The New York Rangers (18-11 SU) cannot shake lethargy, now having lost six of eight. New York was not a high volume shooting team anyways, but they have slid all the way to 26th in shots on net (28.1) during this slump. This is a contest the Rangers should win, but that has been often true the last few weeks.

NHL Pick: Edmonton +135 at 5Dimes

Take Anaheim Based on Oddsmakers
If you have been reading my free NHL picks, you know I am a believer in sometimes just following what the oddsmakers is telling me. Case in points is the contest between Carolina (10-18 SU) and Anaheim (11-17 SU) tonight. As you can read, they have very similar mediocre records yet the Ducks are -200 home favorites.

Clearly, the linemakers know Anaheim is underachieving because their offense is not firing, ranked dead last in scoring in the NHL (1.93 GAG). However, they also realize Carolina is 28th in stopping the puck, which could work to the Ducks advantage, particularly at home.

Anaheim is at least sending out signals they can find wins in taking three of past four and with the total at 5, they are 23-7 at home when the total is five or less the last two seasons.Add in the Hurricanes are winless in six tries versus opponents scoring 2.4 or fewer goals a game and listening to what the sportsbooks are telling up makes sense.

NHL Pick: Anaheim -180 at Heritage
