NHL Pick: Kings -135
Best Line Offered: at 5Dimes

Los Angeles Kings vs. Ottawa Senators
The Kings are back on top of the Pacific Division with a 10 point lead and thanks to an 8-3-2 record on the road. Despite a 2-1 loss to Buffalo, the Kings have accrued a point in their last 6 games and had a 6 game winning streak prior to the Buffalo game. They have accomplished this with top-level defense as they are ranked number 1 in the NHL, allowing just 2.1 goals per game.

With the great Jonathan Quick (16-7-1, 2.31) as starter in net and Jhonas Enroth (3-1-1, 1.31 GAA) relieving Quick, they have been an unstoppable combination and although the Kings possess an average offense, it doesn't take much to get the job done.

Tyler Toffoli
This is one of the key players on offense that the Kings rely upon and he's in a major scoring slump in the month of December without a single point.

For the season, Toffoli is 2nd on the team in points at 11 goals and 9 assists and with help of fellow centermen, Jeff Carter (11 goals, 15 assists), have provided enough offense to lead this team. L.A. has offensive depth with one of the better defenseman in the league in Drew Doughty and winger, Milan Lucic, but the Kings need for Toffoli to produce even though they've been winning lately.

One statistic of note: Jeff Carter leads the Kings with 7 goals and 7 assists on in 13 games on the road. Expect him to be a major factor against a Senators team which allows almost 3 goals per game. Ottawa is definitely a team that the Kings can tee off on and the NHL odds are favorable.

On the Bright Side
From a Senators perspective, they are an offense-minded team as they're 4th in the NHL in goals. With leading scorer and leading puck distributor, Erik Karlsson (6 goals, 26 assists) and winger Bobby Ryan (9 goals, 19 assists), also being a setup man and 2nd on the team in scoring, this allows for a lot of offense from the Senators, especially from guys like Mike Hoffman (15 goals ,12 assists). Although scoreless in his last 2 games, Hoffman has 5 goals and 1 assist in the month of December. The Sens are a "pass happy" team, but unfortunately, their defense is lacking. Take the Kings as the NHL pick tonight.

NHL Pick: Capitals -110
Best Line Offered: at Pinnacle

Washington Capitals vs. Pittsburgh Penguins
The Caps are off to a ferocious start, attempting to make up for unfinished business ended by the New York Rangers in the Eastern Conference Finals last season as they have won 20 out of their first 28 games. They must now face a Pittsburgh team on the road and Pittsburgh hasn't played up to their potential this season with a lot of "in-house" fighting. Word has it that Sidney Crosby is upset with Mario Lemieux and this could be part of Pittsburgh's lack of success this season at 15-10-3.

Overrated?
I wouldn't go that far as Crosby has 872 career points at the age of 28, but he was supposed to be the next Wayne Gretzky and he's been far from it. Every season, his goal total has consistently went down and that's not good for a team that ranks 29th in goals on the season. The Pens need offense badly. Thus far, Crosby is on pace for an 18 goal and 38 assist season and that's not what's expected from him.

Look for Pittsburgh leading scorer, Evgeni Malkin, to lead the way as he broke a 3 game scoreless streak with a goal against the Kings and also leads the Penguins with 15 goals and 15 assists. Malkin is an aggressive player that's not afraid to be aggressive as his 35 penalty minutes indicate. He's coming off of a 10 shot on goal game. That's quite impressive.

The Great Ovechkin
Malkin will need to be impressive as the Caps are averaging 3 goals per game and only allowing 2.2 goals on defense. With Alex Ovechkin on the ice, the opponent always needs to be cautious as this is one of the best goal scorers in NHL history. This season, Ovechkin has been merely average with 25 points, but he's been super-aggressive with 138 shots on net. Nobody on his team even comes close to that and we'll definitely see more of the same aggressiveness from the Russian in this game.
