With the trade deadline passed, assessments are being made for the winners and losers as we head down the stretch. Today the NHL odds look at nine games on the schedule.

Yesterday's 3-0 sweep was our third in two weeks and in the last 12 days of NHL picks, we and hopefully you have enjoyed nine winning days.

In looking over today's NHL odds, we have three picks that might not be the norm and are even a little different for this hockey expert, but we will explain why each has a real chance to win.

Backing Boston Bruins at Home, Really?
Any skepticism about playing Boston (34-29 SU) is understood. The Bruins are miserable 13-19 SU at TD Garden and nobody is easier to score on at home than Boston, who is allowing 3.31 goals at game. Also, after being among the better special teams in the league, these units have been on the fritz with the B's going 0 for 9 on the power play and 5 for 10 on the penalty kill. As bad as all this is, Calgary (26-35 SU) is even worse, which is why they are +175 road underdog.

The Flames have lost seven of eight and it's defense has been crumbling. Calgary has tumbled to 29th in goals allowed by surrendering 4.1 GAG in their past nine outings. There already porous penalty killing has downright pathetic in permitting 27 goals in last 44 chances, cementing their last place ranking in this category.

While it is true the Flames have defeated Boston three consecutive times, they have not done so in regulation in eight games. With the Bruins facing Chicago, Washington, @Florida and @ Tampa Bay in the coming days, they better put out the Flames out quickly in this one or they might be looking at extended losing streak.

Nashville is in Harmony
After being a rather poor squad for about six weeks from the start of December to mid-January, Nashville (31-32 SU) has found the right pitch which has allowed them to win four in a row, six of eight and 12 of 19. If the Predators can keep this up they could very soon join the top heavy part in the Central Division.

Nashville hosts Dallas tonight, who after last night's 3-2 OT home loss to Detroit (we called it), has been on the short end of six of seven. When the Stars are not scoring, they are not going to win frequently with a so-so defense. The way they are playing, hard to imagine they can contain a blistering Filip Forsberg, after he became the first player in 29 years with two natural hat tricks (three consecutive goals scored for team) in three or fewer games and Petri Skriko, who set franchise record with 12 goals in 11 February contests. The Preds are -140 home favorites and face Dallas crew which is 4-12 off an OT loss.

Ottawa's Offense Has St. Louis Singing the Blues
Ottawa (30-33 SU) trails Pittsburgh by five points for the last playoff slot in the East, but that does mean they cannot put up a fight. The Senators No. 5 scoring offense has been in high gear in taking five of six, averaging 3.6 GAG compared to season average of 2.8. No question Ottawa's defense leaves quite a bit to be desired (28th), but St. Louis (36-29 SU) is hardly an offensive juggernaut, listed 24th at 2.48 GAG.

After playing very good defense for five weeks, the Blues have gotten soft in their past five outings, conceding 3.8 GAG. This is where Ottawa can apply the pressure and they have won four of five against St. Louis and are 7-1 after allowing four goals or more in two straight games this season.

The Blues have been a solid road team at 17-14 SU, but with the Senators a +105 home underdog, definitely worth a look.
