It seems like it had been awhile since I could look at the NHL odds and have a couple games jump off the page for potential NHL picks. Find out which ones and why we like them.

Yesterday, we got back on the winning track and nearly had a sweep, but Florida saw its 12-game winning streak come to an end, not being able to hold a 2-1 lead in the third period in Vancouver and losing in OT. I would not read anything into that outcome, as the Panthers were going to lose eventually, but are still on 18-4 SU trajectory and the Canucks are still not very good.

Did pick up a rare OT winner with San Jose, but do not have the faith in them tonight on the road again for NHL picks and will head in a different direction with three other selections. In case you missed it yesterday, I will mention the rest of this week, all picks versus the NHL odds will now be in preference order with top picks first.

Not Jumping off Blackhawks Bandwagon
Simple as this, Chicago (27-17 SU) is hot, winners of seven straight and 14 of 18, this is the Blackhawks team we were expecting which has three Cups in the last six seasons. We are witnessing the kind of production we are used to from the Hawks, who have averaged 4.1 goals a game during this winning streak and moved up to sixth in the league in scoring at 2.84 GAG.

Nashville (19-23 SU) has lost six of eight and mostly been on the road, where their fortunes have not been good. The Predators are 1-5-1 in their last seven away from home and are tied at the bottom of the NHL with Edmonton and New Jersey with 1.40 GAG since the final day of 2015.

I am very puzzled why Chicago has dropped from -180 to -140 on the money line at home where they are 18-6 SU. I checked several websites and Twitter to learn why and even if Scott Darling is in goal instead of Corey Crawford, that is not a 40 cent adjustment. Still like the home team but watch for news.

St. Louis Nails New Jersey
Both teams at least have something to feel better about entering this contest. New Jersey (21-22 SU) ended three-game losing streak with surprising 2-1 win at Minnesota to start four-game road trip and St. Louis (24-21 SU) closed five-game negative stretch with stunning victory at Los Angeles to conclude West Coast sojourn.

Each of these squads is really short-handed due to injury and is just trying to hang on before they have the roster they expected. The Blues were released as -155 home favorites and have been on the rise since and if goalie Brian Elliott starts as presumed, he has a 1.96 goals-against average in his last nine games, giving his club the edge. St. Louis has also won four in a row over the Devils and New Jersey 8-24 playing into revenge.

Coyotes Look to Continue Dominance of Edmonton
The insertion of Louis Domingue in goal has helped Arizona (21-20 SU), after the failures of Mike Smith. The Coyotes have won three straight and seven of 10 and Domingue has been a big part of their success with a 6-0-2 mark as a starter and 1.73 GAA and .947 save percentage. The 23-year netminder has made a big impact because Arizona has been solid in scoring, ranked seventh at 2.83 GAG. What has really hurt the Coyotes is special teams. They have penalty killing problems, listed 24th at 78.8 percent. Also, Smith and others have hurt them, conceding a league-worst eight short-handed goals.

Though Arizona lost at Edmonton (17-26 SU) 4-3 in OT 10 days ago, they are 11-0-2 versus the Oilers in last 13 tries, averaging four goals a game. The Yotes are -145 home favorites against a club that is 0-8 ATS in road games after scoring one goal or less in their previous outing this season.
