The Pittsburgh Penguins Can Win Because…
The Penguins are in a slump. They’ve dropped four of their last six games and eight of 14. That’s startling considering we’re talking about a team that had only lost 11 times all season long before that. Goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury is a big mess right now four straight starts and seven out 10. He’s allowed 29 goals in that span, which is pretty high considering his GAA on the season is 2.36 – even after that stretch. The Pens have been forced to keep him on the bench as backup Jeff Zatkoff has started three of the last five games.
This team looks like the Stanley Cup favorite that they’ve been throughout a large part of the season. They shouldn’t be laying this type of juice on the NHL odds right now.
The Phoenix Coyotes Can Win Because…
The Coyotes are going to be out of gas. We’re talking about a team that’s gone from playing the Boston Bruins on Saturday to the New York Rangers on Monday to the Penguins on Tuesday. That’s about as rough of a stretch you can get in the NHL and the Coyotes could be out of gas.
The Pens could really use an easy night and there’s a good chance that scheduling helps them out. The Coyotes are just 13-22 on the road while the Pens are 26-8 at home.
Outlook & Pick
It’s hard to add the Pens to my NHL picks these days considering just how sluggish they’ve been. They’re not a lock at The Igloo as they were earlier in the year. They’ve dropped four of six at home, which is a bad sign considering they had only lost four times in their first 28 home games.
That being the case, I’ll take a shot with the under here. Seven of the last nine meetings in Pittsburgh have stayed under while the under is 18-11 when the Coyotes are on the road with a total of 5.5.
Hockey Pick: Under 5.5 at Bovada
