We’ve looked through Wednesday's menu and circled our three favorite games, which all feature NHL betting matchups between Eastern Conference teams.

Washington Capitals vs. New York Islanders

NHL Odds: Islanders -150

Typically, when we’ve thought about New York Islanders games in the past, we think about high-scoring games because of their stellar offense and bad defense. However, much of that has changed. With the Jaroslav Halak between the pipes, the Isles have been winning games defensively over the last couple of weeks and have been engaging in low-scoring affairs.

Halak is expected to be in net on Wednesday night, facing his former team, and that should only motivate him even more. He’s posted three shutouts in his last six games and he hasn’t allowed more than three goals in a game since October 28th.

The Caps are having a tough time generating much of an offense with just seven goals in their last five games. Take the under here.

NHL Pick: Under 5.5 at 5Dimes

Philadelphia Flyers vs. Detroit Red Wings

NHL Odds: Red Wings -160

The Flyers have fallen on hard times as they’ve lost five of six games. The main culprit for their failures has been the offense, which has gone ice cold. The Flyers, who had been one of the league’s highest scoring teams, have tallied just 12 goals in their last six games. They have a really tough time scoring goals on the road as they’ve averaged 3.45 at home (fifth best in the NHL) compared to 2.11 on the road (24th in the NHL). They’ve lost five straight on the road while scoring just seven goals in the process.

The good news is their goaltending has been strong as Steve Mason has a 1.35 GAA in his last three road games. He plays well against Detroit as he’s won three straight against them while posting a 1.67 GAA. Based on those factors, the best choice for our NHL picks in this spot is the under.

NHL Pick: Under 5.5

Carolina Hurricanes vs. Florida Panthers

NHL Odds: Panthers -125

We’ve got an ugly game in this spot as the Carolina Hurricanes have dropped five of six while the Florida Panthers have lost three of four. Neither team is playing particularly well and both are in the basement of the Eastern Conference standings. The Hurricanes have 15 points while the Panthers have 20. Even though the Canes are lower on the totem pole, they might be worth a look here. Florida hasn’t been a particularly strong home team as they’ve lost three of four on their home ice and they don’t tend to fare well against Carolina. The Canes have played well in this series as they’ve won three straight meetings and five of six overall. You get them as a dog in NHL odds here, so they’re worth a flier in an otherwise even games

NHL Pick: Hurricanes +113
