Do you want to know the best NHL betting value in today’s game between Dallas and Chicago? Then take the time to read this NHL betting preview article on this game from our sports handicapping expert that culminates with a free pick.

Central Division Clash in the “Windy City”
The Blackhawks play host to the Stars on Sunday at the United Center in Chicago with a 7:05 PM scheduled start time. According to the live NHL betting odds at SBR, Chicago is a -200 money line favorite, and the posted total is 5.5. Chicago has dominated the games between these teams going 7-1 in the last 8 versus Dallas. They met once already this season, and Chicago was a 3-2 winner at Dallas.

Stars aren’t Shining
The Dallas Stars are off to a disappointing 6-11 start to the season. The oddest part has been their 1-8 start at home, and the solid 5-3 beginning on the road. Today will be their 3rd game in the last 4-days, and 4th in the last 6. The Stars are coming off a 2-1 home loss on Saturday at the hands of the Minnesota Wild, and have now lost 8 of their last 10-games. Dallas is a dismal 0-6 versus Central Division opponents this season, and has been outscored by an average of 1.6 goals per game in the process. Kari Lehtonen was in goal for the loss yesterday, and it remains to be seen if head coach Lindy Ruff will start him in consecutive days. Lehtonen has gone a stellar 5-1 on the road this season with a very good .930 save percentage. The backup goaltender Anders Linback has gone 0-3 this season, and compiled a horrible .852 save percentage in those starts. It also must be noted, the Stars have outscored their opponents by a cumulative score of 35-28 in their first two periods of games this season. However, they’ve been outscored in the 3rd period by a wide 23-11 margin.

Waiting for a Surge
The Blackhawks haven’t been able to put together one of their epic winning runs so far in the 2014-2015 campaign. They’re coming off a 4-1 loss at Detroit on Friday, and it was the first time in 8 losses that they were defeated by more than 1-goal. Their 26-shots on goal at Detroit, was the lowest output in 10-games. Chicago has seen just 3 of their first 17 games go over the total. The Hawks also squandered a chance to win 3-games in a row for the first time this season. Chicago has gone 5-2 this season following a loss. The Hawks penalty killing has been outstanding to start the year. They’ve held opponents to a mere 4-for-51 (7.8%) conversion rate with the man advantage. Contrary to tonight’s opponent, Chicago has outscored opponents 17-7 in the 3rd period of games this season.

Final Analysis
The logical selection would be to go with Chicago in this game. However, it’s never a good idea for me or anyone else to lay that kind of juice. The Blackhawks have sustained a lot of offensive pressure on their opponents for the better part of the season. Dallas has their issues defensively, but they have enough offensive firepower to create headaches for opponents. I’m going to lean toward wagering on the total in this game as one of my NHL picks today.
