Flames in Anaheim on Wednesday
The Anaheim Ducks will host the Calgary Flames tonight at 10:05 PM ET. Our focus will be on the total in this contest. According to the NHL odds at Bookmaker, the current posted total is 5.0.
The Starting Goaltenders
The Calgary Flames will go with red-hot Joni Ortio in goal tonight. Since being recalled from their AHL affiliate in Adirondack, he's made four consecutive starts, posted a terrific .958 save percentage, and the Flames came out on top in each of those contests.
The Anaheim Ducks will go with Frederik Andersen between the pipes. Andersen has seen only six of his twenty-one starts (28.6%) at home go over the total, and he’s posted an outstanding .926 save percentage in those appearances.
Team Totals Reports
The Calgary Flames enter tonight having allowed just 5-goals combined in their previous four games. They’ve seen three of the last four, seven of their previous ten, and thirteen of the last nineteen stay under the total. The Flames will be facing an opponent (Ducks) tonight that averages 30.8 shots on goal per game. Calgary has gone under the total in ten of thirteen this season versus teams that average 29.5 or more shots on goal per contest.
The Anaheim Ducks have allowed only 3-goals combined during their previous three games. They’ve seen just seven of their twenty five games (28%) at home go over the total. As a matter of fact, when the Ducks have hosted a team from within their own division, nine of those ten games have gone under the number. The Ducks enter tonight riding a four game winning streak, and they’ve seen all seven games this season go under the total following three or more wins in a row.
NHL Totals Betting Angle
Calgary is coming off a 2-1 road win at Los Angeles in their previous game. Ironically, Anaheim is coming off a 3-2 road overtime win over the Los Angeles Kings in their last contest. These two results lead us to an extremely profitable betting system which has withstood the test of time. I’m going to utilize that valuable handicapping tool when making my NHL picks for Wednesday.
Any home team (Ducks) with a total of 5.0 or less, coming off a road win, versus an opponent (Flames) coming off a road 1-goal win versus a team from within their own division, has seen 32 of those 41-games (78%) go under the total since 1996.
