Are you looking for a solid NHL total to wager on tonight in the NHL? Read our NHL betting preview article on tonight’s Flyers/Ducks game, and it concludes with an outstanding 56-23 (70.9%) winning angle since 1996 on the total  in this game.

Tough Task for Flyers on the Duck Pond
The Ducks will host the Flyers tonight at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California with the opening face-off slated for 10:35 PM ET. According to the NHL odds at Bovada, the Ducks are a -205 money line favorite, and the posted total is 5.5. The Ducks defeated the Flyers 3-2 at Philadelphia in their only meeting this season back on October 14th. Anaheim won both of their regular season meetings versus the Flyers a season ago.

Road Woes and Goal Scoring Struggles Continue
I mentioned in one of yesterday’s NHL betting preview articles how the Flyers have been terrible on the road thus far in the 2014-2015 campaign, and also how they’ve struggled to score goals over the last couple of weeks. Well everything stayed status quo in that regard after last night’s 2-1 loss at San Jose. The loss was especially tough to swallow for the Flyers, considering the Sharks scored the game winning goal with just 0:14 left in the 3rd period. That marked the 8th consecutive loss in a row on the road for the Flyers. Philadelphia has now scored only 11-goals combined over their last 8-games. Compounding their miseries is the fact they’ve now lost the last 5, and 9 of their last 10-games overall.

Low Scoring Games Plentiful for the Ducks
The Anaheim Ducks have shown a tendency to being involved in a plethora of low scoring affairs this season. That’s especially been the case at home where they’ve gone over the total just twice in 14-games. As a matter of fact, when the total is 5.5 for a Ducks games at home this season, all 9 of those contests have stayed under the total. Tonight’s scheduled goaltender Frederic Andersen has been marvelous at home this season. Andersen has seen 9 of his 11-starts at the Honda Center go under the total, and he’s compiled a superb .928 save percentage in the process. Anaheim has failed to go over the total in each of their previous 4-games at home.

NHL Totals Angle
I’ve already alluded to the fact that the Flyers have now lost 5 consecutive games in a row. Tonight will be the Flyers 9th game in the last 14-days. When combining those two factors, NHL betting history has shown that low scoring games happen more times than not. I’m going to lean on the betting system below in making my NHL pick in this contest.

Any road team (Flyers) with a total of 5.5, coming off 4 or more losses in a row, and this will be their 8th game or more during the last 14-days, has seen 56 of those 79-games (70.9%) go under the total since 1996.

Free NHL Pick: Philadelphia/Anaheim to go under the total of 5.5 at 5Dimes
