We’ll be examining Game 2 of the NHL Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series on Friday between the Islanders and Capitals. Can the Islanders take full command of this series with another win? Will the Capitals exhibit the kind of desperation that will result in them evening series at 1-1?
Capitals back to the Wall in Game 2 versus Islanders
The Washington Capitals will look to even their series on Friday when they host the New York Islanders in Game 2 of their Eastern Conference playoff series at 7:05 PM ET. According to the NHL betting odds at 5Dimes, Washington is a -145 money line favorite, and the posted total is 5.0. The loss on Wednesday snapped a four game Capitals home winning streak against the Islanders.
Islanders look to take a Stranglehold in Series
Like with any NHL team who starts a playoff series on the road, and doesn’t enjoy the luxury of home ice advantage, the goal is to at least steal one those first two games. In the Islanders case, they have an excellent opportunity to seize a commanding 2-0 series lead, and would force the Capitals to win four of the next five in order to advance. That would seem to be a monumental task since three of those games will take place on enemy ice, and the Islanders have gone a solid 25-16 at home during the 2014-2015 regular season campaign. The good news for Islanders fans is their team won the opening game of the series, the bad news being that they’ve lost the last seven games in a row following a win.
High Degree of Urgency
The pressure will certainly be on the Capitals to even this series up on Friday before heading out on the road for games 3 and 4. Along with that pressure come a high degree of urgency and that can be a much needed edge that Washington needs in what’s seemingly an evenly matched series. I fully expect the Capitals to turn in an excellent performance in Game 2, and send the series back to Uniondale, New York knotted up at one game apiece.
NHL Money Line Betting System
The Washington Capitals have scored two goals or less in each of their previous two games. Contrarily, the New York Islanders have scored exactly four goals in each of their last two contests. It would be easy to get lured into wagering on the Islanders as an underdog, considering that previously mentioned raw data. However, recent NHL betting history has proven that would be a huge miscalculation. I certainly won’t be making that error when making one of my NHL picks on Friday.
Any money line home favorite of -200 or less, coming off two straight games in which they scored two goals or less, versus an opponent that scored four goals or more in each of their previous two games, resulted in that home team going 41-10 (80.4%) during the past five seasons. That also includes a very profitable 9-2 during the 2014-2015 campaign.
NHL Pick: Play Washington -145 on the money line over the Islanders at 5Dimes.
