NHL Picks: Bruins -155 to win; Bruins -1.5 (+190) and OVER 5.5 (-+120)
Best Line Offered: at William Hill

Montreal Canadiens (21-15-3)
The Montreal Canadiens are sat second in the Atlantic Division with a 21-15-3 record and 45 points. Only a point separates them from divisional leaders Florida Panthers (21-12-4).

Most recently, and not without irony, the Canadiens are coming off a loss to the Florida Panthers, a 3-1 defeat in the Sunshine State. Most concerning though for Canadiens’ fans is the 2-8-0 record in the last ten games, a significant dip in form by Montreal that marks a complete turnaround from what was essentially a bright start to the season. It’s not a coincidence that this drop in form coincides with the injury to Carey Price. Since their star goal keeper was side lined the Canadiens have won just four of their 16 games. Yikes.

The Canadiens are in the midst of a eight-game road trip, in which they boast a 1-5 SU record. The lone win came over Tampa Bay, a shootout they won 4-3. Over this run of abysmal form, they’ve been outscored 22-10. Yikes, again. Not surprisingly, road form is 10-9-1 on the season.

Boston Bruins (20-12-4)
The Boston Bruins are sat pretty in third place in the Atlantic Division, a point behind the Montreal Canadiens and two points behind division leaders Florida Panthers. The premium on the win in this game, therefore, couldn’t be any greater as the pair look to ring in the New Year on a positive note.

Where the Boston Bruins appear to have a distinct edge is on form. They are 6-3-1 in their last ten games, coming off a 7-3 win over the Ottawa Senators. A win that snapped a three-game losing streak in time for this highly anticipated Winter Classic betting extravaganza. What’s more, the Bruins are 11-3-2 on the road and seeing as this is a game that will be played on neutral ground it’s a good advantage to have.

NHL Betting Verdict
At first glance, it’s easy to spot the team that is on form right now in this matchup. That’s the Boston Bruins, despite a three-game losing streak ahead of the win over the Senators. They’re 6-3-1 in their last ten and riding a wave of momentum as they close the gap at the top of the division. The Montreal Canadiens, meanwhile, are struggling something awful behind their backup goalie and while they aren’t being blown off the ice in each and every game their defense is sorely taxed.

Predictably, the Bruins are favored at -155 NHL odds at William Hill while the Canadiens are trading as the +135 underdogs. It’s interesting to note that the Bruins are favored at -1.5 on the puck line handicap but at +190 NHL Odds, which suggest bookies expect this game to be a close one. The Canadiens are trading at +1.5 (-230).  Finally, the Over/Under is set to 5.5 with the OVER matched at +120 and the UNDER trading at -140.

For our money, we’re taking the in-form Bruins to win straight up at -155 with our NHL Picks as well as the Bruins to cover the -1.5 puck line at +190. Given the occasion and the suspect goal tending for the Canadiens, this could be a lopsided affair. What’s more, we fancy the OVER 5.5 at +120 as the Bruins roll to a big win at Gillete Stadium.
