Game 5 was bad news for the St. Louis Blues. They played fairly well, yet still lost by a count of 4-1 at home. Now their playoff lives are on the line for Game 6 in Minnesota. However, they find themselves as a road dog on the NHL betting lines in that spot.

The St. Louis Blues Can Win Because…
They continue to alternate good and bad performances, means Game 6 should be a good one. The Blues lost Game 1 with a poor effort, then turned it up a notch and won Game 2. Then they again were half asleep in Game 3 but easily cranked out a win in Game 4. Now they’re coming off a loss in Game 5, which likely means they’ll make enough adjustments to get the job done here and win Game 6.

The good news is the last time the Blues were in Minnesota, they managed to score six goals and chase Devan Dubnyk. That bodes well for their confidence heading into the all-important Game 6. It’s do or die here for St. Louis and they’ve been a strong road team all season long. Look for them to shine in a road game once more on Sunday.

The Minnesota Wild Can Win Because…
They beat the Blues straight up in Game 5 and are more than capable of doing the same in Game 6. Prior to Game 5, the pattern in this series had been that the Blues had lost games where they hadn’t played well and won the games where they made a better effort. However, Game 5 proved otherwise. The Blues outshot the Wild 37-19, won the battle in the faceoff circle (41-36), outhit the Wild (22-19) and had the same amount of penalty minutes and power plays. Even so, St. Louis got thrashed 4-1.

The same issue continues to crop up for the Blues: offense. They’ve now lost seven of their last nine playoff games and while they’ve scored 10 goals in the two wins, they have just nine goals in the seven losses. Devan Dubnyk bounced back in a big way in Game 5 after getting pulled in Game 4, stopping 36 of 37 shots. The only goal that came was on the power play. Now that the Wild are back at home, they are going to make amends for their shoddy performance the last time they were on their home ice. The Wild are the better choice for your NHL picks.

The Blues just don’t look like they have the offense in them necessary to compete. They continue to disappoint in the playoffs no matter what they do because their offense can’t show up on a game-to-game basis. That being the case, it’s tough to trust them in this spot.

Although this has been a back-and-forth series and we do have to lay some juice with the Wild on the NHL betting odds here, they’re my pick. I think this series is over in Game 6.
