The Canucks host the Blues on Wednesday at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia with the opening puck drop slated for 10:35 PM ET. Is there a clear-cut way to bet against the NHL odds here?

According to NHL betting odds St. Louis is a -125 money line road favorite and the posted total is 5.0. This will be the first game for both teams since breaking for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi nearly 3 weeks ago. These two teams have seen just 9 of their last 38 meetings go over the total.

Canucks on a Freefall

Vancouver returns from the break hoping to shake a prolonged futile period. The Canucks enter tonight having lost the last 7, and 16 of their last 20-games. They’ve also endured a terrible goal scoring drought that’s seen them score 2-goals or less in 12 of their last 15-games. The Canucks have also allowed 3-goals or more in 8 of their last 9-games. Despite all the turmoil they are 9th overall in the Western Conference, but are just 1-point behind both Phoenix and Dallas for the final playoff spot. Tonight will be the first of a 3-game in 5-day home stand for Vancouver.

Serious Stanley Cup Contender

The St. Louis Blues enter tonight tied for 1st in the Central Division with the defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks, and are 2nd overall in the Western Conference just 3-points behind the leading Anaheim Ducks. However, the Blues have 3-games in hand on both Anaheim and Chicago. St. Louis returns from the break tonight by playing their 1st of a 3-game in 6-day road trip. The Blues are a rock solid 17-10 versus the money line on the road this season, and have earned at least 1-point in 20 of those 30 road tilts. The Blues have also seen their previous 4-games all go to overtime, and won 3 of the 4. St. Louis is 17-7 in their last 24-games versus the money line.

Final Analysis

There’s no value in taking a team that’s as cold as the Canucks currently are, especially considering the cheap price. St. Louis is the real deal, and is one of the most complete teams in all of the NHL. They get my nod here for my hockey picks.
