Read which NHL team is getting the most backing by the public today and why we have to play a bigger favorite for our NHL pick than normal.

The schedule makers weren't very kind to us today as there are four games that start before our preferred time of 4:00 PT so that only leaves us with one option to consider. The other three games money lines are too high. Before we talk about tonight's Stars / Blackhawks match-up lets see who the general public is backing today and if they're on the right side.

Betting Trends

To be clear when we talk about different aspects of wagering such as trends, referee statistics, or the betting public, it's just to give my players a different way to look at games.  It's nothing more than a tool to use and my opinion on how to apply the tool if you like to handicap games from a, for example, trend aspect.  Our official play will always be at the bottom of the write-up.

Over 81% of all tickets written today have been on the New York Rangers which makes sense. Even if you're a novice NHL follower you would know that the Devils have been a much stronger home team than on the road and have lost nine of their last 12 games overall.  The Rangers are not usually a team that you can count on to have a letdown but I still would proceed with caution considering the Rangers have some key players out of Rick Nash and Pavel Buchnevich leaving them less than 100% up front.  New York still has plenty of firepowers but I'm not excited about laying more than -150 if I can help it.

The Washington Capitals are receiving support from 80% of the bettors but we're not getting involved with a game that wants you to lay over -300.  This is what separates my followers from the general public. Lose this game and you'll be chasing it for a week.

Dallas Stars vs Chicago Blackhawks

This brings us to our game today between the Chicago Blackhawks and the Dallas Stars. 79% of all tickets written on this game have gone to Chicago, and so will our NHL pick, but with Scott darling starting in net for Chicago the bigger players have weighed in heavily on the Stars side pushing the number down from its opening -175.  We have expected a turnaround from the Dallas Stars for a few weeks as they've gotten healthier but we haven't seen enough offensive consistency yet and I certainly have never liked the Stars goaltending.

You will need to shop for the best line at SBR approved books because the lines vary from Chicago as a -165 favorite to a more reasonable -145.
