The 'under' is 21-8-2 in the last 31 meetings at United Center. Read why Dana Lane expects this trend continue as Blackhawks continue to move up in my power rankings.

Don't look now but the Chicago Blackhawks are moving towards the top spot in my recent power rankings and in the Western Conference standings.  Chicago is ranked fifth overall in my rankings on the heels of a convincing road win over the Minnesota Wild resulting in a three game winning streak.

Tonight the Arizona Coyotes come to town in a game that may spell a little letdown for the Hawks after their convincing win over the top team in the West. That means a slower pace with a Coyotes team who's fine with that style.

Chicago is 7-3 this month, a streak that began with a 4-3 victory over Arizona at Gila River.  I'm sure that recent result is why the betting public is pounding the 'over'.  I tend to go the other way.  I'm more of a guy who feels comfortable relying on head coach Dave Tippett to come up with a way to limit the Blackhawks chances considering he has a recent blueprint for what Joe Quenneville's team brings to the table, of course we can say the same for the Chicago which is why you often see the complete opposite result between two teams that have recently met. We have seen that trend play out this season as the Blackhawks dominated the first meeting 4-0 at the United Center in early December.

The Coyotes won't make the playoffs but no one can say they've quit, in fact, there have been huge improvements, evident by their 8-5 record in their last 13 games.  They just went into the Honda Center and limited the Ducks to two goals in a 3-2 win.  If I'm going to back an 'under' I need to make sure I'm dealing with two teams who will play hard for 60 minutes.

Blackhawks netminder Corey Crawford, has been a brick wall this month posting a 5-1 record, stopping 166 of 182 total shots. I know its a silly statistic in many ways but Crawford in undefeated on Thursday's this season.

One final note, the Coyotes are going to be sellers at the trade deadline which means that you'll see a more responsible defensive game as players pay attention to detail in anticipation of potentially being moved.
