It’s time for a rematch of last year’s Stanley Cup finals. Although the Chicago Blackhawks triumphed when it mattered the most, they’re not expected to get the win on Thursday as they’re an underdog on the NHL odds. Both teams come into this matchup on hot streaks.

The Chicago Blackhawks Can Win Because…
They’re finally putting it together. 2014 has not been kind to the Blackhawks but they have regained their swagger over the last couple of weeks – or at least it would appear. They’ve won four of six and seven of 12 as their offense has regained its stroke. The Blackhawks have tallied three or more goals in six of those seven wins and that’s really the key for them. They lead the league in goals but for whatever reason, swing from one end of the spectrum to the other when it comes to their scoring in wins and losses. In wins, they’re at 4.12 per outing. In losses, that drops to 2.13. The history in this series shows they can get to the number they need. The Blackhawks have won four of the last six meetings and scored at least three goals in each of those games. They can get to that number again, which is why they’re worth a shot with your sports picks.

The Boston Bruins Can Win Because…
They’ve been the best team in the league over the last few weeks. The Bruins 12-game winning streak did come to an end in their latest outing but that came via shootout. Even in their only loss in the last 13 games, they scrapped it out to the end. Keep in mind that the loss came at the hands of Montreal, who seems to have Boston’s number.

The Bruins are firing on all cylinders these days as their offense has averaged 3.8 goals per game over their last 16. Defensively, they’ve only given up 12 goals in their last nine games.

The Blackhawks are a dicey road bet as they’ve dropped four of five on the road. The Bruins are the better team and should get the job done here.

Outlook & Pick
The Bruins 12-game winning streak ended on Monday but don’t be surprised if there’s a bit of a hangover. Much of the Bruins winning streak was compiled against teams under .500 and they’re only 7-6 in their last 13 against winning teams.

This game is a coin flip but I’ll add the Blackhawks to my NHL picks given that they’re a sizable dog.
