Despite the home revenge spot, it’s the total that’s going to give us tonight’s NHL winner when the Anaheim Ducks visit the New York Islanders. The puck drops at Barclays Center at 7 p.m. ET.

Not every game is going to be an easy winner, but we got the job done Wednesday when Dougie Hamilton scored at the 7:57 mark of the third period to give the Calgary Flames a 2-1 victory over the St. Louis Blues, allowing us to cash another ticket. Want more winners besides my daily write-up? Make sure to watch the "The Ice Guys" every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 9 a.m. ET.

Tonight, we fly over to Brooklyn, N.Y., where the Anaheim Ducks continue their seven-game Eastern road trip, which they would like to end on a high note. They take on the New York Islanders, who lost to the Ducks in October and are in the midst of their own sluggish play, slipping to the bottom in goals against (3.50).

Not a situation I love to be in, but according to the SBR odds page, it appears we have some company in our wager. The number opened 5.5 over -115, a number that was quickly bet up to 5.5 -125 in some spots. It appears as if the both the public (66.7 percent of all wagers) and professionals are on our side. There is a 6 at Heritage, which offers plus money. We’ll stick with the 5.5. Constantly check the odds page for the best number.

I’m not sure the Ducks can push this contest over the total by taking advantage of the Islanders' transparent defense by themselves, but I do feel confident the Islanders will give up at least 2-3 goals -- which brings us back the Anaheim. Do I think the Ducks and their 29th-ranked offense can help us out? If you look at each line you’ll find there are some signs of life, and its goes all the way to the depth line where Logan Shaw has four points in his last five games. In fact, Shaw has produced half of his season point total in those five games. Third-liner Kevin Roy has three goals in his last five games and six points in his last 10. Adam Henrique has been scorching hot with eight points in his last 10, finally giving the Ducks some stability up the middle with Ryan Getzlaf.

The answer to the question is, I think I can get 2-3 goals from the Ducks, which should be enough to get us the win. I happen to think this will be a close game, so that brings a potential empty-net goal into the equation, giving us a little kick at the end if needed.

This isn’t my favorite card, but it looks good enough to give out as the Play of the Day.
