Sharks at the First Niagara Center
The Sabres will host the Sharks on Tuesday at the First Niagara Center in Buffalo with a scheduled starting time of 7:35 PM ET. According to the NHL betting odds at 5Dimes, the Sharks are a -240 money line favorite, and the posted total is 5.0. The puck-line at BetOnline has San Jose -1.5 (+125) and Buffalo +1.5 (-145). These teams met in San Jose on October 25th, and the Sabres skated away with a 2-1 win as a mammoth +330 money line underdog. Buffalo also defeated San Jose in both matchups last season.

Inconsistent start to the Year
The San Jose Sharks enter today with a somewhat disappointing 10-10 money line record considering the talent level on their roster. They’re coming off a 2-0 win at Carolina on Sunday in their previous game. Since starting the season by going 3-0, they’ve gone 1-6 in their last 7 following a win in their previous game. The San Jose Sharks have now gone under the total in 3 consecutive games, and have only gone over the number in 3 of their last 12. Goal scoring production has been an issue recently for the Sharks as they’ve scored 2-goals or less in each of their previous 5-games. Today will be the finale of a 7-game in 11-day road trip for San Jose, and they’ve gone a respectable 3-3 so far.

A Rare Offensive Explosion
The Buffalo Sabres established a couple of firsts in their 6-2 home win over Toronto on Saturday. The 6-goals scored was their highest output of the season, surpassing their previous high of 4 in a game at Carolina back on October 14th. They also had 35-shots on goal which was the most this season, eclipsing their previous high of 32 which they accomplished on 2 separate occasions. It was just the 2nd time all season the Sabres had outshot an opponent in a game, the first time came in the previously mentioned game at Carolina. After scoring 3-golas or more just twice in their first 17-games, the Sabres have done so in each of the last 2. Putting things into proper perspective, Buffalo is still a dismal 4-15 against the money line this season, and is firmly entrenched at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings.

Final Analysis
As I alluded to earlier, the Sharks lost their only other meeting this season versus the Sabres as a huge money line chalk. Additionally, they’re coming off a shutout win in their previous game. The combination of these two factors sets up a strong betting system that’s passed the test of time, and I’ll use it to my advantage when making my NHL picks for today.

Any road team (Sharks) that’s playing with same season revenge from a loss as a money line favorite, and they shutout their opponent in their previous game, has seen 30 of those 39-games (76.9%) stay under the total since 1996.
