Clash in the Pacific between Kings and Ducks
The Anaheim Ducks entertain the defending Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings on Friday at 10:05 PM ET. According to the NHL betting odds at 5Dimes, the Ducks are a -120 money line favorite, and the posted total is 5.0. This will be the fourth meeting of the season between these Pacific Division rivals, Anaheim won two of the first three, and all of those contests were decided in overtime.
Kings Win Streak Snapped
The Los Angeles Kings suffered their first loss in their last nine games on Thursday night. The Kings were victimized by a red-hot rookie goaltender named Andrew Hammond during a 1-0 loss to the Ottawa Senators. Jonathan Quick started in the sixteenth consecutive game for the Kings last night, and once again was stellar by stopping 30 of 31-shots on goal by Ottawa. In all likelihood, the Kings will insert Martin Jones between the pipes tonight. Jones hasn’t started or appeared in a game since a 5-3 home loss versus New Jersey on 1/12/2015. As a matter of fact, he was pulled from that contest after surrendering three goals on just thirteen shots. The Kings backup has posted a miserable .809 save percentage during his previous four starts.
Ducks hope to get back on track at Home
The Anaheim Ducks are coming off a 3-0 home loss to the Ottawa Senators in their previous game. That setback marked the third consecutive loss on home ice for the Ducks. Despite the loss, Anaheim is still a very good 20-12 against the money line at home this season. They will also possess an edge in terms of rest in tonight’s game. The Ducks will be facing an opponent (Kings) that will be playing their third game in the last four nights. Contrarily, this will be only the third game in the last six days for Anaheim, and each of those contests will have been played on home ice.
Despite winning their previous two away games, the Kings are a terrible 9-18 against the money line on the road this season. It would be hard to imagine that Martin Jones will be sharp tonight after such a long layoff, and he was playing terribly before his sabbatical on the bench even began. It would also be difficult to envision the Ducks losing four games in a row at the Honda Center in Anaheim. I’m siding with the reasonably priced home favorite for one of my NHL picks today.
NHL Pick: Play on the Ducks -120 on the money line over the Kings at 5Dimes.
