Our resident NHL handicapping professional did it again in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals by cashing on going under. He provides us with a betting preview article for Game 2 on Saturday which concludes with his totals selection.

Stanley Cup Finals Game 2 on Saturday
Tampa Bay will look to get even in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals at home on Saturday. Chicago found a way to steal Game 1 on Wednesday by virtue of scoring two goals late in the third period for a 2-1 win. These teams have now seen all three of their meetings this season go under the total. My focus of concentration on this article will be on the total. According the NHL betting odds at BetOnline, the posted total is 5.0. Going over the number is at a price of -128, and under the total at -116.

Totals Report
As a result of Wednesday’s opening game of this series going under, Chicago has now gone 12-6 over the total during the 2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs. It’s worth noting that Chicago is 3-0 over the total during these playoffs following a game that went under. Despite lighting the lamp just twice on Wednesday, Chicago is averaging a robust 3.2 goals per game this postseason. That two goal output in the series opener also halted a streak of four goals or more being scored by the Hawks in four consecutive games.

The Tampa Bay Lightning is 12-9 over the total during these 2015 NHL Playoffs. They’ve gone 5-1 over the total in the postseason following a game which went under. This is a Lightning team which was the top scoring club in the NHL during regular season play. Although their offensive numbers are down a bit during the playoffs, they’re still averaging a very respectable 2.8 goals per contest in 21 games. A concern I have for the Lightning has been the recent play of Ben Bishop. He’s been either very good or very bad as the playoffs have progressed. Case in point, Bishop allowed five goals or more in three of the seven Eastern Conference Finals games versus the Rangers, and was pulled on two of those occasions.

Final Analysis
I firmly believe will see the polar opposite of what we witnessed in Game 1 when offensive chances were very limited, and both teams played cautiously. These are two very talented offensive teams with a high degree of creativity and speed. My lean is toward a high scoring affair for one of my NHL picks. BetOnline provides us with best price in that regard at over 5.0 (-128).
