According to the NHL odds, the Los Angeles Kings are tied for the biggest favorite of the year on Thursday night. They’re laying as high as -360 in some places. That’s about the same price that the Anaheim Ducks laid against the Buffalo Sabres last night.

The Buffalo Sabres Can Win Because…
…is there a good one? The Sabres are absolutely pathetic these days and the season just started. They’ve won once in seven games and that lone came in a shootout against the Carolina Hurricanes, who could be equally as bad. In their six losses, the Sabres have scored a combined five goals. That’s embarrassing. That needs to change or they won’t be able to keep in the Los Angeles Kings tonight.

The Los Angeles Kings Can Win Because…
They are playing the worst team in the NHL. On top of that, the Sabres are going to be on short rest after playing in Anaheim on Wednesday night.

The Kings have been fantastic to start the season as they enter Thursday on a four-game winning streak. Their goaltending and defense has been world-class as they’ve allowed just three goals in their last four games. That should continue against a Sabres team that can barely muster enough shots on a nightly basis, let alone goals.

This is just a mismatch of epic proportions. The Sabres are on the road in a tough back-to-back. The Kings are playing very well and are rested. The price here is justified.

Outlook & NHL Pick
There’s no way you can lay this type of number with the Kings, although the NHL odds – in many ways – seem justified. However, I’ll lean to the under as laying -360 just isn’t advisable. Last night, we saw the Pittsburgh Penguins lose at home as a -240 favorite, so that goes to show you that anything can happen.

Instead, go with the under. The Kings defense has been outstanding while the Sabres can’t do anything to light the lamp. Under is the best choice here for your NHL picks.
