Our NHL betting odds consultant breaks down tonight’s game between the Wild/Rangers. Take the time to read this informative NHL betting preview article which includes a free pick on the total.

Stellar Non-Conference Battle
The Rangers play host to the Wild on Monday at Madison Square Garden in New York with a 7:05 PM ET scheduled start time. According to the NHL betting odds at Pinnacle, the Rangers are a -115 money line favorite, and the posted total is 5.0. These clubs split their 2-meetings last season with each team winning on home ice.

A Team on the Rise
The Minnesota Wild will be out to show that last season was no fluke. They were one of the surprise teams in the NHL a year ago, finishing 7th overall in the Western Conference, and advancing to the conference semifinal series before being eliminated by Chicago in 6-games. They’re off to a solid 4-2 start to this season, won their last 2-games by a cumulative score of 9-2, and have seen 5 of those first 6-games go under the total. Minnesota is a terrific defensive team that’s allowed 6-goals combined in their first 6-games, and that includes 3 shutouts. Darcy Kuemper has been outstanding in 5-starts in goal for the Wild, posting 2-shutouts, and compiling an off the charts .966 save percentage.

Stuck in Neutral
The NY Rangers had their 3-game winning streak come to an end in a 3-1 loss at Montreal on Saturday night. The loss evened the Rangers record at 4-4 this season. The bar was set pretty high entering this year after “The Blue Shirts” advanced to the 2014 Stanley Cup Finals, and lost to the Los Angeles Kings in 5-games. The Rangers special teams have left a lot to be desired in the early going. They’ve converted on only 9.1% of their power play chances, and have allowed opponents to cash in on 20.7% of their man advantage opportunities.

Final Analysis
This game has all the ear marks of a low scoring affair. The Rangers have gone under the total in 18 of their 26-games at home the last 2-seasons versus an opponent with a winning record. I’ve already alluded to what a premier defensive team that Minnesota is. I’m going to use a total in this contest for one of my NHL picks tonight.
