The Ducks host the Canadians on Wednesday at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California with the opening faceoff slated for 10:05 PM ET. Where does the best value lie for our NHL picks?

According to NHL betting odds the Ducks are a -175 money line home favorite and the posted total is 5.5. Anaheim has defeated Montreal in 5 of their last 7 meetings. Montreal is 2nd in the Atlantic Division, and 3rd overall in the Eastern Conference. The Ducks are the leaders of the Pacific Division, and are 1st overall in the Western Conference.

President’s Trophy Leader

The Anaheim Ducks enter tonight with the most points in the NHL, and have their eye on the President’s Trophy which is awarded to the top point getter in the NHL during the regular season. After sustaining just their 2nd three-game losing streak of the season during their first 3 contests of February, the Ducks have rebounded nicely by winning the last 3. Anaheim went the first 22 home games this season without sustaining a loss during regulation time. However, they’ve lost 5 of their last 9 at the Honda Center. On a more positive note, they’re 2-0 since returning from the Olympic break, and both of those wins came on home ice. Tonight will be the 3rd of a 5-game in 11-day home stand for the Ducks. They’ve been the Western Conference leader for the majority of the season, but are hearing footsteps from St. Louis who trails them by just 3-points, with the Blues having 1-game in hand.

Quietly having a Good Year

It’s hard to imagine that anything in the NHL involving the Montreal Canadians can possibly fly a tad bit under the radar. However, such is the case this season for a storied franchise that’s under constant scrutiny from the local media, and their avid fan base. Montreal is on pace for a 95-point regular season, and is in prime position to have minimally home ice advantage in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. There’s a current major concern having to do with the status of #1 goalie Carey Price who was placed on injured reserve shortly after the Olympic break, with what’s being termed as a lower body injury. Price was in the midst of having the best season of his career, and recently was the backbone of Canada’s gold medal winning run in the recent Olympic hockey tournament. He’s traveling with the team but there’s been no timetable as of yet placed on his return. On a more positive note, there could be much worse options than current backup goaltender Peter Budaj. The Canadians have earned at least 1-point in 10 of Budaj’s 15 starts this season. The 31-year old veteran has a very good 2.20 GAA and a respectable .918 save percentage on the year.
