There’s a full slate of NHL action on Saturday, and we’ll examine the Detroit at Ottawa game. Read our insightful article on this contest concluded by a selection which is backed with a money line betting system that’s gone 39-18 since 1996.

Atlantic Division Style Hockey Night in Canada
The Ottawa Senators will host the Detroit Red Wings today with the opening face-off slated for 7:05 PM ET. According to the NHL betting odds at 5Dimes, Detroit is a -125 money line favorite, and the posted total is 5.0. These teams have split their two meetings this season with both winning on home ice. Detroit went 3-2 versus Ottawa a season ago, and all 5 of those contests went over the total.

Halting a Futile Stretch
The Detroit Red Wings overcame a 3-2 deficit heading into the 3rd period, and came away with a 6-3 home win over the Buffalo Sabres in their previous game. The win halted a 6-game losing streak for Detroit. The 6-goal offensive explosion was an encouraging sign as well, considering they scored only 6 combined during their recent 6-game skid. The Red Wings just completed a stretch which saw them play 12 of 15-games at home. They’ll now have the unenviable task of playing 8 of the next 9 on the road.

Difficulty Turning the Corner
The Ottawa Senators just can’t seem to put anything together so far in the 2014-2015 NHL campaign. Since getting off to a 4-1 start to the year, the Senators have only won two in a row twice, and have failed to win three games in a row. They’re coming off road losses in each of their previous 2-games, 4-1 at Montreal, and 2-1 at Washington. Since firing former head coach Paul McLean, the Senators have gone an uninspiring 3-4. One of the few bright spots in their first 34-games has been the goaltending of Craig Anderson. In 21-starts this season, Anderson has a stellar .929 save percentage.

NHL Money Line Betting System
As I already alluded to, the Red Wings are coming off a 6-3 win over one of their Atlantic Division rivals (Buffalo) in their previous game. Detroit has gone 18-17 against the money line this season which is good for a .514 winning percentage. The Senators are 14-20 versus the money line and that equates to a winning percentage of .412. The above mentioned factors, creates a successful money line betting system, and I’ll use that valuable sports handicapping tool when making my NHL picks for today.

Any team with a winning percentage of .400 to .490 (Ottawa), versus an opponent coming off a win by 3-goals or more against a team from within their own division, has seen that team go 39-18 (68.4%) against the money line since 1996.
