Saturday’s meeting between the Montreal Canadiens and Detroit Red Wings has plenty of playoff implications. Take a look at where we found the value NHL picks for this match-up.

The Habs are favored on the NHL odds but the Red Wings would love to send an early message as these two teams are currently slated to square off in the first round of the playoffs.

The Detroit Red Wings Can Win Because…
They’ve won four straight and reinforcements have arrived. Pavel Datsyuk returned to the lineup on Friday night and helped boost the Red Wings to their fourth straight win. Although the team had been mired in a scoring slump in the early part of March, they’ve come to life in the last couple of weeks. They’ve scored at least three goals in five straight games and nine of their last 10. When they’re offense is cooking like that, that’s reason enough to take them with your sports picks.

The Montreal Canadiens Can Win Because…
They’re on cruise control. The Habs won 7-4 in Ottawa on Friday night, making it their ninth win in 11 games. Carey Price is playing phenomenal right now as he’s won nine of this last 11 starts. If there’s anything that can cool a hot Red Wings offense right now, it’s him. He’s allowed just 27 goals in his last 14 starts, which is about as good as it gets in the NHL.

The Red Wings could be worn down for this game as it’s going to be their fifth game in eight nights. That’s a lot of hockey for any team to deal with, so take the Habs with your NHL picks.

Outlook & Pick
The Habs probably win this game but it’s too much juice for my sports picks here. Instead, I’ll take the under based on Price’s recent performance and the fact that Detroit could be a little worn down. Seven of the last 10 meetings in Montreal have stayed under.

Pick: Under 5.5 at Bodog
