Our resident NHL betting odds guru examines the game today between the Kings/Hurricanes. Take the time to read this informative NHL betting preview article that concludes with a free pick on the total.

Kings in the Eyes of the Hurricanes
The Hurricanes will host the defending Stanley Cup champion Kings today at the PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina with the opening face-off slated for 5:05 PM ET. According to the NHL betting odds at Bookmaker, the Kings are a -180 money line favorite, and the posted total is 5.0. The Kings won both meetings versus the Hurricanes a season ago, and each contest stayed under the total.

Road Weary but Battle Tested
Tonight will be the 4th of a 5-game in 8-day road trip for the Kings. Unfortunately for the defending champions they’ve gone 0-3 so far on the current trip, and are 0-4 in away games on the season. They’ve been outscored during their first 3-games of the road swing by a cumulative score of 11-4. However, this is a team that’s been there, and done that during the past 3- seasons. You won’t see this battle tested team panic because of their recent struggles, and it’s just a matter of time before they turn things around. The Kings have gone over the total in just 2 of their first 11-games this season.

Finally off the Hook
The Carolina Hurricanes finally captured their first win of the season in yesterday’s 3-0 home win over the Arizona Coyotes. Despite the win, they’re still last overall in the Eastern Conference Standings, 1-point behind the 15th place Buffalo Sabres. The shutout victory on Saturday was an encouraging sign considering they were allowing a lofty 4.1 goals per game entering the day. Carolina has seen just 1 of their previous 6-games go over the total. The Canes have gone under the total in 21 of 29-games versus Western Conference opponents during the past 2-seasons.

Final Analysis
The Kings enter today’s game having gone 6-5 against the money line this season, good for a .545 winning percentage. I’ve already alluded to their recent travel itinerary, and the combination of those two factors creates a very profitable NHL betting system that I will utilize in making one of my hockey picks today. Any road team (Kings) with a money line winning percentage of .510 to .600, playing their 3rd road game within the last 5-days, and the game is in the first half of the season, has seen 122 of those 186 (65.6%) situations stay under the total.

Free Pick: Kings/Hurricanes to go under the total of 5.0
