There are just 3-games on the NHL slate for Sunday but that hasn’t deterred us from uncovering value. Read this revealing betting preview article between Flames & Hawks which concludes with a free pick on the total.

Flames at the United Center on Sunday
The Flames and Blackhawks will battle on Sunday night at the United Center in Chicago. The opening faceoff is slated for 8:05 PM ET. According to the NHL odds at 5Dimes, Chicago is a -190 money line favorite, and the posted total is 5.5. Chicago was a 4-3 road winner over Calgary in the only other meeting between these Western Conference teams this season. The Flames defeated the Hawks in 3 of the 4-games played between these clubs a season ago.

Flames Hit the Wall
The Calgary Flames were off to an impressive 17-10 money line start to the season. However, since then they’ve lost their last 4-games in a row heading into tonight. Ironically, the Flames outshot the opposition in each of those 4-losses, and did so by a cumulative margin of 140-to-100 shots on goal. Tonight will be the finale of a tough 4-game in 6-day road trip for the Flames, and will also be their 3rd game in the last 4-days. Despite losing 3 in a row on the road, the Flames have gone a respectable 9-8 against the money line in their away games to begin the 2014-2015 NHL campaign. The listed probable starting goaltender for tonight is Karri Ramo. He’s gone 5-2 in 7-starts on the road this season with a stellar .919 save percentage.

Win Streak Ends but still Red-Hot
The Chicago Blackhawks are coming off a 3-2 road loss to the New York Islanders in their previous game. That loss put an end to an 8-game winning streak. Chicago has also gone 11-2 in the last 13, and 13-3 in their last 16-games. The Hawks have been without the services of #1 goaltender Corey Crawford since late November. He’s been sidelined with a foot injury, and in all likelihood will be out for at least another two weeks. Tonight’s slated starter in goal is Antti Raanta. This will be just the 6th start of the season for Raanta, and he’s gone a perfect 3-0 at home this season with an off the charts .965 save percentage.

Final Analysis
The Blackhawks have gone over the total in just 7 of 30-games (23.3%) this season. The Flames have gone over the total in just 6 of 17-games (35.3%) on the road. As a matter of fact, Calgary has gone under the total in 6 of their last 7 away games. I’m going to be wagering on the total in this game for one of my NHL picks today.
