Two NHL Pacific Division rivals go at it tonight when the Edmonton Oilers attempt to slow down the red-hot Anaheim Ducks. Take a few moments to read our preview article on this contest, including a profitable 61-33 NHL pick on the total.

NHL Friday Night Lights in Edmonton
The Oilers will host the Ducks on Friday night at Rexall Place in Edmonton. The opening face-off is slated for 9:35 PM ET. According to the NHL odds at Bovada, the Ducks are a -170 money line favorite, and the posted total is 5.5. These teams just met this past Wednesday in Anaheim, and the Ducks skated away with a 2-1 win. Since the start of last season, the home team has won each of the 6-games played between these clubs.

Heat gets Hotter for Ducks
The Anaheim Ducks enter tonight having won the last 5, and 8 of their last 10-games. They certainly will be provided with a heat check during their upcoming schedule. Tonight will be the first of a 5-game in 8-day road trip for Anaheim. Although, it may not be that daunting of a task, considering they’ve gone a very good 9-5 against the money line on the road this season. Frederik Anderson is slated to be in goal once again tonight. Barring a change, this will be the Ducks 17th consecutive game in which Andersen has been their starting goaltender, and that’s highly unusual in the modern NHL era. Andersen has gone 16-8 in his 24-starts this season with a solid .913 save percentage. However, he’s been a bit shaky in 10-starts on the road, posting a subpar .893 save percentage, and just 2 of those 10-games have stayed under the total. As a matter of fact, the Ducks have seen each of their previous 5-games on the road all go over the total.

The Miseries Continue
I get the feeling, if I were to do a NHL betting preview article on an Edmonton Oilers game two weeks from now, I would be reciting the same downtrodden references and remarks regarding this struggling club. The Oilers enter tonight having lost the last 2, 11 of the last 13, and 15 of their last 19-games. They’ve gone a dismal 1-11 this season versus opponents from within their own division, and are dead last in the Western Conference standings. They’ve also scored 2-goals or less in each of the previous 5, and 9 of their last 10-games. Viktor Fasth is scheduled to be in goal tonight for Edmonton, and he’s gone 2-9 in his 11-starts this season, with a less than impressive .896 save percentage.

NHL Betting System
I’ve already alluded to the fact that Anaheim is currently riding a 5-game winning streak. The Ducks are 19-11 (.633) versus the money line this season, and the Oilers have gone a dismal 7-22. The combination of these three occurrences, in addition to this game taking place in the 1st half of the season, qualifies for a successful NHL totals betting system. I’m going to utilize that sports handicapping tool in order to make one of my NHL picks for today.

Any road team (Ducks) playing in the 1st half of the season, who has a winning percentage of .600 to .700, and they’ve won each of their previous 2-games, versus an opponent (Oilers) with a losing record, has seen that road team go over the total in 61 of those 94-games during the past 5-seasons.
