Ross Benjamin comes off a 4-2 day yesterday with his NHL free picks at SBR Today he provides us with a NHL betting preview article on the game between the Sharks/Ducks.

Pacific Division Showdown
The Ducks will play host to the Sharks tonight at the Honda Center in Anaheim with the first puck drop slated for 8:05 PM ET. According to the NHL betting odds at Bookmaker, the Ducks are a -170 money line favorite, and the posted total is 5.5. Bookmaker has Anaheim -1.5 (+175) and San Jose +1.5 (-205) on the puck line. The Ducks have won 4 of their 5-games at home versus San Jose during the past 3-seasons, and 4 of the 5 went over the total.

Sharks off an Embarrassing Loss
The Sharks suffered a humiliating defeat yesterday afternoon as a -360 money line favorite at the hands of the Buffalo Sabres. Buffalo had entered the game 1-7 on the year, and had scored just 9-goals in their first 8-games. The Sharks started the season by winning 4 of their first 5-games, and since then have lost 4 in a row. They shutout each of their first two opponents this season, and in their last 7-games they allowed 27-goals. The Sharks power play has been excellent during the past 5-games by converting on a robust 31.6% of their man advantage opportunities. Contrarily, their penalty killing has been on the opposite end of the spectrum during that 5-game span, allowing opponents to convert on 27.8% of their power play chances.

Dazzling Ducks
The Anaheim Ducks enter tonight having won 7 in a row since their opening night loss at Pittsburgh. Tonight will be the finale of a 5-game in 10-day home stand that’s seen them outscore the first 4-opponents 13-3. Each of the first 5-games of the home stand has stayed under the total. Anaheim’s offensive production has been terrific in this early part of the season. They’ve scored 29 times, and are averaging a stellar 3.6 goals per game. The probable starting goaltender for tonight for Anaheim is Frederik Andersen, and all he’s done thus far is go 6-0 with a superb .951 save percentage.

Final Analysis
The Ducks are playing terrific right now in all phases of their game. The Sharks struggles of late were certainly magnified after yesterday’s loss at home to arguably the worst team in the Eastern Conference. Anaheim won both home games last season versus San Jose, and did so in emphatic fashion by scores of 5-2 and 6-3. I’m going to lean toward a puck-line play in this game for my NHL picks today.
