The NHL odds are out for this game as the Boston Bruins (25-17-4-1 SU, 22-25 PL, 20-22-5 OU) come in off a hard fought win over Columbus in a SO and they have now won four of their last five games, while the Flyers (20-17-4-4 SU, 26-19 PL, 16-19-10 OU) are looking to get back to action after having their game vs the Islanders postponed on Saturday due to a snowstorm. The Flyers have lost three of their last four games coming into this one. The Bruins have won nine of the last 12 games played in Philadelphia.

Krug Lifts Bruins over Blue Jackets in Shootout
The Boston Bruins took on the lowly Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday night and they nearly let the game slip away from them. The game was scoreless heading into the second period before Boston got a goal from Brad Marchand just 32 seconds into that period. It was his team leading 19th of the year. The Bruins then got a goal from David Pastrnak just three minutes later to give them the 2-0 lead. It was his 5th of the year. After that, the Blue Jackets put two on the board in the same period and it stayed that way until Torey Krug scored the deciding goal in the shootout.

It really would have been embarrassing for the Bruins to lose to Columbus, specially after grabbing the 2-0 lead. Jonas Gustavsson got the start in this one and picked up the win. He is now 9-4 with a 2.29 GAA on the year. Tuukka Rask should get the start here and his is 8-7 with a 1.89 GA on the road, while vs. the Flyers he has gone 9-4 with a 2.15 GA in his career. The Bruins check in at 3rd in the league in scoring, putting up 3.0 gpg, while converting on 26% of their power play chances, which is 2nd in the league. On defense, they rank 15th in goals allowed (2.6 gpg) and 5th in penalty kill (84.9%).

Flyers Lose Tough One in Pittsburgh
The Philadelphia Flyers have played very well vs the Penguins of late, but on Thursday night they fell 4-3 to the Pens, which was their first loss vs them in nine games. The Flyers did get off to a 2-0 lead after the first period, but then Pittsburgh scored the next four goals to take control of the game. Taking the loss vs Pittsburgh was Steve Mason, who is now just 10-18 with a 2.72 GAA on the year. Michal Neuvirth should get the call in this one and he is 10-7 with a 2.05 GAA overall, including 6-2 with a 1.79 GAA at home, while vs the Bruins he is 1-3 with a 3.85 GAA in his career.

Scoring for the Flyers in the loss was Brayden Schenn, which was his 11th of the year, Jakub Voracek, which was his 6th and Claude Giroux, which was his team leading 14th of the year. Finding consistent scoring has been an issue for the Flyers as they have just three players with double digit goal totals and just six players overall with seven or more goals. For the year the Flyers check in at 28th in the league in scoring, putting up just 2.2 gpg, while converting on just 17.1% of their power play chances, which is 22nd. On defense they come in at 16th in goals allowed, giving up 2.6 gpg, while allowing teams to convert on 21.6% of their power play chances, which is 25th.

Trends for Boston:
40-17 in their last 57 vs. the Metropolitan
73-35 in their last 108 vs. a team with a losing record

Trends for Philadelphia:
5-16 the last 21 games in the series
1-4 in their last five home games vs. a team with a road winning percentage of greater than .600

Betting Analysis
I like the Bruins here for my NHL picks as they have won four of their last five games and Tuukka Rask has good numbers vs. the Flyers, plus he has been much better on the road this year than at home. The Flyers still have scoring woes and I expect that to continue here vs Rask. The Flyers are not playing well at the moment and that means this a good spot for the Bruins to get some revenge for a 3-2 loss on this ice just 12 games ago.
