The Boston Bruins and Buffalo Sabres used to have a very heated rivalry. Nowadays, it’s one-sided as the Bruins are strong and the Sabres are horrible. The Bruins are a huge favorite in Buffalo on Thursday according to the NHL betting lines.

The Boston Bruins Can Win Because…
The Sabres are hardly capable of tying their shoes, let alone winning NHL games. Buffalo has lost eight of 10 games to start the season and is already packing it in for the year. By the way, the season just started.

The Sabres have a pair of wins on the year but at a closer look, the team looks even weaker when you consider that one win came against Carolina, who is worse than Buffalo, and one win came against San Jose, who has had to deal with a crazy schedule to start the season. Other than that, Buffalo has lost by a combined margin of 29-6.

The Bruins have already faced the Sabres once this season and rolled them 4-0. A similar result is likely.

The Buffalo Sabres Can Win Because…
There is a small opening for them. Yes, the Sabres have been horrible to start the year but the Bruins are a little banged up. Boston will be without two of their top defensemen for this contest as Zdeno Chara and Torrey Krug are both out. Remember, this is a team that was already thin on blue line depth after trading away Johnny Boychuk just before the start of the season. That means Boston is without three defensive starters from last year.

The Bruins haven’t been that impressive to start the season as they are just 5-6 on the year. They’ve actually dropped two of three and six of 10. Buffalo is bad but it’s not as if Boston is their typically bulletproof selves. There is a small window of opportunity for Buffalo here if they can play their best game.

Outlook & Pick
There’s no way you can lay this type of juice with Boston. Yes, they probably win but you either have to take the puck line here or look at the total. I’ll take a shot with the Bruins on the puck line but I’ll also go with the under. The Sabres just aren’t scoring goals these days as none of their last six games have topped the five-goal mark. The Sabres have been shut out four times already and have scored more than one goal just once in their eight losses. Take the Bruins with your NHL picks here as they should win easily here and keep Buffalo under wraps.
