The Boston Bruins had a rough start to the season but have picked up the pace recently. They enter Wednesday’s matchup in Toronto on a five-game winning streak. They’re also a small favorite on the NHL betting lines for this game.

The Boston Bruins Can Win Because…
They’re playing really well right now. Not only have the Bruins won five straight, they’ve also cashed in eight of their last nine games. That 1-3 start has been long forgotten as the Bruins are again performing like the top team in the Eastern Conference. Boston’s defense and goaltending is what typically leads the way and right now, it’s airtight. They’ve allowed two goals or less in five straight while allowing an average of 1.8 in that span.

The Bruins offense has also come to life. After totaling just six goals in their first five games, they’ve averaged 3.63 in their last six.
Boston own's this series as goaltender Tuukka Rask is 10-2-0 with a 1.57 GAA in his career against the Maples Leafs. Overall, the Bruins have won 12 of 15 in this series, so take them with your NHL Picks.

The Toronto Maple Leafs Can Win Because…
They’re playing pretty well right now. The Leafs have gone 5-1-1 in their last seven and their offense is clicking. They’ve scored 10 goals in their last 10 games and have scored three or more in six of their last seven. They’re not a team that’s known for defense, so they have to win with offense. When they’re lighting the lamp like this, the Leafs are going to win plenty of games.

The Bruins are banged up on the blue line with all sorts of injuries. Zdeno Chara is out and the team is not the same at the back end when he’s not around. There’s other injuries too including David Krejci, who will miss the next two games for the Bruins. There should be an opening for the Leafs to edge the Bruins and the good news is you get them at a good price here as a home dog.

Outlook & Pick
It’s a pretty cheap price here to get in on the Bruins. They’re playing really well right now while the Leafs are just so-so overall. The Leafs offense has done well recently but they never seem to get going against Boston. The Bruins play well in Toronto, winning six of their last eight trips, and as mentioned, Rask fares very well against the Leafs. There’s no real home-ice advantage here. That being the case, lay the short number with the Bruins. They should come away with another win tonight.
