Our resident NHL betting odds guru takes a look at tonight’s game between Chicago/Detroit. Take a couple of moments to read this revealing NHL betting preview article which includes a free pick against the money line.

Two of the “Original Six” in Motown
The Red Wings will play host to the Blackhawks on Friday at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit with the opening puck drop slated for 7:35 PM ET. According to the NHL betting odds at Pinnacle, Chicago is a -123 money line favorite, and the posted total is 5.0.These teams split their two meetings a season ago with each club winning on home ice.

Stifling Defense and Superb Goaltending
The Chicago Blackhawks have limited their opponents this to an average of only 1.9 goals per game this season. They also have a huge +10.5 shots on goal per game differential. Corey Crawford has played superbly in goal for the Hawks, going 6-4 in his 10-starts, compiling a terrific .931 save percentage, and Chicago has gone under the total in 8 of those 10-games. Although the Blackhawks are averaging a robust 38.1 shots on goal per game, they’ve only scored on only 7.2% of those opportunities. Chicago enters tonight 9-7 against the money line, and all 7 of those losses have come by 1-goal. They’ve seen just 3 of their first 16-games go over the total.

Bit of a Lull to Overcome
After beginning the year by going 6-4 against the money line in their first 10-games, the Red Wings have dropped 4 of the last 5 heading into tonight. Following a plethora of low scoring games to start the year, Detroit has seen their last 3, and 8 of the last 9-games go over the total. On a positive note during this current 5-game funk, the Red Wings power play has gone a stellar 6-for-20 (30.0%).

Final Analysis
The Red Wings are coming off a 4-3 home loss at the hands of the Tampa Bay Lightning in their previous game. They enter tonight with a 7-8 money line record which is good for a .467 winning percentage. The combination of these two factors sets up an extremely profitable money line betting system that I’m going to lean on heavily when making my NHL pick in this game.

Any road money line favorite of -110 to -150, versus an opponent that’s coming off a home 1-goal loss, and that opponent has a winning percentage of .450 to .550, has gone 44-13 (77.2%) during the past 5-seasons.
