Things are heating up on ice over in the NHL and your Humble Handicapper has some thermal insulated, cast iron top hockey tips to share with you as the Chicago Blackhawks take on the Dallas Stars this Tuesday night.

Looks like this should be a one sided game as Dallas have been outscored 16-5 in their last three away games and Chicago are the NHL's highest-scoring team. The Stars have a chance to slide into the final Western Conference postseason spot if they can just turn around their recent road woes.

The Stars are 34-26-11, and are within one point of eighth-place Phoenix in the Western Conference after their back-to-back wins. It was looking a bit stinky for Dallas but they halted their 0-3-1 skid with a 3-1 victory against the Ottawa Senators on Saturday, and edged the Jets 2-1 on Monday. However, both their wins were home wins, and the Stars have dropped three straight on the road. Still, Dallas can move past Phoenix with a win in Chicago tonight, if the Coyotes lose in Pittsburgh earlier in the evening.

We hightlight our favorite NHL Picks for Tuesday night.

Enough with what ifs…WHERE’S THE MONEY MIKE?
Here are the basics; the Blackhawks winning is at best hockey odds of 1.48 while the Stars coming up trumps is at 2.75.

The Blackhawks are inconsistent of late and were shut out 2-0 by visiting Nashville on Sunday after seven (count ‘em) goals in back-to-back wins. The Blackhawks are 41-16-15 and to get a sense of their form they have scored two goals (or fewer) in 12 of their last 20 games, but (four or more) in seven of the remainder.

Chicago have won seven of eight over the Stars, but came a cropper 4-3 in the only other meeting at the United Center this season. But that relied on a game-winning goal from a penalty shot by Antoine Roussel.

Looking at the last 10, Dallas are 5-4-1 and Chicago are 5-4-1. You can pick up Chicago to score first at 1.64 and Dallas to open the scoring at 2.15, however you can get 51 on the game ending goalless. But, the game won’t end goalless.

It’s the fifth and final (regular) game between the Dallas Stars and Chicago Blackhawks of the season. A decent bet to go for is the game going Over 2.5 goals at 1.02 while the Under is at 13. Scant returns but a safe one.

The bookies seem to think that this is going to be a close one. They have, in terms of the correct score odds, 2-2 is their favourite (at 11). That’s followed by 3-3 at 14 and 1-1 at 17. However, with a game of this magnitude we will see a winner.  The bookies then offer up two Blackhawk wins, 3-1 and 3-2 at 17 and 18 before the offer up odds on a Stars win. The shortest correct score odds on a Stars win are on 3-2 at 24. Nuff said!
