The Chicago Blackhawks are red hot right now while the Boston Bruins are struggling. The two sides will meet up on Thursday night in a matchup of Original Six rivals. The Blackhawks are a -123 favorite on the NHL betting lines for this one.
The Chicago Blackhawks Can Win Because…
They’re playing as good as they have all season. Even though Chicago is without lead goaltender Corey Crawford these days, Their NHL odds look promising and they enter Thursday’s affair on a seven-game winning streak. Pretty much everything is working well for them as they’ve scored at least three goals in each game during this seven-game streak and they’ve allowed two or less in each of them.
On offense, the chemistry seems to be working well as the Blackhawks have figured out their line arrangements. Earlier in the year, they were mixing and matching parts, and it wasn’t working. Now coach Joel Quenneville has found the right combinations and they’ve been on fire. At the other end, although they’d rather have Corey Crawford between the pipes, the backups are playing well.
Beyond that, the Bruins have lost their way as they’ve registered just two wins in their last seven games. The Bruins offense is having a really tough time scoring. Even though they have scored nine goals in their last two, they managed just eight goals in their previous five contests combined. If the Blackhawks get to three goals in this one, they probably win.
The Boston Bruins Can Win Because…
They’re playing at home. While the Bruins have been struggling lately, a lot of that has come on the road. For the season, the Bruins are just 6-7-0 in their 13 away games. However, at home, they are a respectable 9-5-1. The issue is really is goaltending and defense as the Bruins are one of the best units when they’re at home (2.40 goals per game) but they give up nearly a goal more per game on the road (3.15).
With the Blackhawks using a backup goalie in this spot, it should give Boston an edge with Rask in net. Take a shot with them in this spot.
Although it’s a bit surprising to see the Bruins – the team that finished with the most regular season points in the conference last season – as a home dog but that’s the reality. They can’t seem to find their way right now while the Blackhawks are an unstoppable force. Although the Bruins play well at home, the Blackhawks still play well on the road. The 2.27 goals per game they allow on the road is fourth-best in the NHL and the 3.07 they score in away games is also fourth best. They’re 10-5-0 road record is pretty good.
That being the case, I’ll take a shot with the Blackhawks in this spot. Boston is just in a bit of a funk right now and the Blackhawks should be able to extend that – at least for a game. Take the Blackhawks with your NHL picks.
