Can the Vancouver Canucks put together strong performances on consecutive nights? Will the Colorado Avalanche finally begin to turn things around? Our NHL betting odds expert has the answers and a money line free pick in this game.

NHL Mile High City Clash
The Avalanche will host the Canucks tonight at the Pepsi Center in Denver with the opening face-off is scheduled for 9:05 PM ET. According to the NHL odds at Pinnacle, Colorado is a -122 money line favorite, and the posted total is 5.5. These Western Conference foes met three times last season, and the Avalanche won 2 of the 3 confrontations.

What To Do For An Encore
The Canucks turned in a stellar performance last night in their 4-1 victory at St. Louis. The win snapped a 2-game losing streak, and improved their record to 4-2 on the season. Ryan Miller was superb in goal by stopping 31 of 32 shots on net. The Canucks have scored 3-goals or more in 4 of the first 6-games, and have stayed under the total just one time this season. On a negative note, Vancouver has gone a dismal 1-8 in their last 9-games when playing with no rest, and despite last night’s win, they’re a poor 7-17 against the money line in the last 24 on the road.

Rough Start for the Avalanche
The Colorado Avalanche entered the season with very high expectations. After all, they were the biggest surprise team in the NHL a season ago. They’d captured the Central Division title, and finished 2nd overall in the Western Conference. It was a remarkable turnaround led by rookie head coach Patrick Roy, considering they finished with the least amount of points in the conference the year before. However, this season has been a rocky start with no pun intended. The Avalanche has won just 1 of their first 7-games, and has been outscored 24-12 in the process. The terrible beginning to the year became magnified in a 3-2 home loss to the lowly Florida Panthers in their previous game. There is a positive they can hang their hat on entering tonight, Colorado has gone a perfect 16-0 against the money line during the past 2-seasons following a home loss.

Final Analysis
The Avalanche is entering tonight playing on two days rest. The Canucks aren’t as fortunate after playing last night in addition to this being their 3rd game in the last 4-days. Public perception is sure to favor the Canucks in this spot. I am fading that notion and using the home side for one of my NHL picks tonight.
