It’s the last night of regular action as the NHL gets ready for its All-Star break. Here are our best NHL picks to play over and under the betting odds total.
Chicago Blackhawks vs. Pittsburgh Penguins
NHL Odds: Penguins -110
This is a fairly tough game to pick as it’s an even matchup but I’m going to go with the over. Pittsburgh is in a real funk right now with losses in three straight. They actually only have four wins in their last 12 games, which is quite surprising. The main issue is goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury, who has struggled of late. After posting a 2.00 GAA and .935 save percentage in December, he’s allowed 19 goals in six January games so far, posting a 3.45 GAA and .887 save percentage. If he’s in net, take a shot betting over the NHL odds. The Blackhawks are not the epitome of momentum right now themselves with three losses in their last five. They’ve had their own issues between the pipes, coughing up 3.38 goals per game this month, which is the seventh-worst number. With the goaltenders playing the way they are and the amount of firepower that’s here, we should see an over.

Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Ottawa Senators
NHL Odds: Senators -140
It’s hard to believe that it’s come to this for Toronto: they’re a -140 underdog in Ottawa tonight. At one point this season, they were 19-9-3 and were significantly better than the Senators in the standings. However, they’ve only won three games since (in 16 games). Expect their rivals to do everything in their power to kick them while they’re down.
What we do know about the Leafs is they’ve been playing plenty of unders since they can’t score. They’ve tallied one goal or less in seven of their last nine games and each of their last five have stayed under. Ottawa has been playing better defensively too since making a coaching switch, so we’ll look for a low-scoring affair in this one. Take the under for your NHL pick here.

Columbus Blue Jackets vs. Winnipeg Jets
NHL Odds: Jets -160
The Winnipeg Jets and Columbus Blue Jackets are both playing well right now, so Wednesday’s affair should be entertaining. The Blue Jackets have won back-to-back games while the Jets are 5-0-1 in their last six. The over looks like the right play here as Sergei Bobrovsky has not played well against the Jets franchise. He’s dropped four straight against them while posting a 4.33 GAA. And while he’s won two straight starts, he had dropped three in a row prior to that while posting an ugly 4.05 GAA.
The Jets offense has been cooking as they’ve averaged 4.5 goals per game over their last six. The average score in their January games has produced 6.34 goals per game, so we’ll look for the Jets to lead the way to an over in this one.
