We’ve isolated our best two NHL totals on Saturday and will provide you with the analysis on each of those contests. The qualifying games are between Arizona/Montreal and Nashville/Pittsburgh.

Arizona Coyotes vs. Montreal Canadiens 1:05 PM ET
The Arizona Coyotes are coming off a 7-2 blowout loss at Ottawa yesterday afternoon. Obviously that game easily went well over the total of 5.5. Arizona has now gone over the total in 12 of their last 14 road games, and has surpassed the number in six of their previous seven versus Eastern Conference opponents. What’s even more significant is the fact they’ve allowed a whopping average of 4.1 goals per game during their previous nine contests.

The Montreal Canadiens are coming off 1-0 wins in each of their previous two games. Both of those games came with a red-hot Carey Price in goal. Price will receive a rest day today and will be replaced by Dustin Tokarski. The Montreal backup goaltender (Tokarski) has struggled in his two starts at home this season as evidenced by a poor .877 save percentage in those outings. This will be just the fourth start for Tokarski since the last week in November. Montreal will also be facing an opponent (Arizona) today that has a winning percentage of .346 on the season. The Canadiens haven’t seen any of their last six at home stay under the total, when facing an opponent with a less than .400 winning percentage.

Nashville Predators vs. Pittsburgh Penguins 2:05 PM ET
Betting Angle revolving around the Predators
This will be only the second game in the last five days for the Nashville Predators. They’re coming off a 3-0 road loss to the Colorado Avalanche in their previous game. Recent NHL betting odds history has shown that teams in this exact situation like the Predators are today, have shown a high probability of being involved in a low scoring game.

Any team (Nashville) coming off a road loss in which they were shutout, and their playing just their second game in the last five days, has seen that team go under the total in 32 of those 41-games (78%) during the past five seasons.

Totals Betting System involving the Penguins
The Pittsburgh Penguins are coming off a 2-1 overtime win at New Jersey in their previous game. The Penguins have outscored their opponents during the first periods of games this season by a decisive of 54-37. That equates to a huge +0.35 goal per game differential during the first period of contests this season. The combination of all this data provides us with a betting system on the total which will be essential in making one of my NHL picks today.

Any home team (Pittsburgh) with a total of 5.5, coming off an overtime win in their previous game, and that home team has a +0.2 or better goal per game differential in the first period during all their contests for the season, has seen that home team go under the total in 62 of those 82-games (75.6%) during the past five seasons.
