The San Jose Sharks have a commanding 3-1 lead heading back to Los Angeles to potentially end the Kings season. See my write up and NHL pick inside.

San Jose Sharks vs. Los Angeles Kings
The San Jose Sharks are in a comfortable position as they try to end the Los Angeles Kings season tonight at the Staples Center.  The Sharks are probably one of the few teams that would rather try to close out a series on the road than at home as they owned the best road record at 28-10-3.

I was hoping to get more of a favorable number on this as the line opened Los Angeles -146 and thankfully the bettors were all over the Sharks at plus money as the line has plumented down to -129 at Heritage.

I will say for the Kings I still think they have done a serviceable job on defense allowing the Sharks only 26 shots per game which is down from their season average of 30.2 per game this season. Obviously this number is going to go down when you step up in competition but I still think the Kings defensemen have done a decent job especially with the loss of Alec Martinez.  If you have to pin point one backend player that does need to step up it would be Drew Doughty who has been scoreless through four games with a -3.  Not acceptable from a potential Norris Trophy winner who was a +24 in the regular season.  If the Kings can get just a little more production from him that would make his pairing with Jake Muzzin a formidable offensive pairing considering Muzzin has three points through four games.

San Jose's shot percentage has gone down from their regular season production of 9.7% to 7.8% against Los Angeles so the Kings just need to figure of how to get more offensive production from Jeff Carter and Tyler Toffoli to have a chance to send this back to San Jose.

Wednesday's home win by the Sharks was just the second win by a home team this season and both have been by San Jose but despite their stellar record on the road they have given up almost 30 shots on goal on the road so it's not like they have been shutting teams down but it's in the net where they win their games away from home.

Before we prematurely move the Sharks along in this series lets not forget the 2014 season where the Sharks had the Kings in a 3-1 hole before Los Angeles came roaring back to win the series and their second Stanley Cup title in three years. Remember all four games have been decided by one goal with the Kings sending a message after nearly completing a three goal come back in game four.

Betting Analysis
From a trend perspective the Los Angeles Kings are 23-9 at home against teams with a road winning percentage over .600. This certainly is a positive trend if you're thinking the Sharks road success is too much to overcome.

We are going to back the Los Angeles Kings as our NHL pick in this one at -125 on the NHL odds boards. @DanaLaneSports
