The Philadelphia Flyers stymied the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday, shutting them out 4-0 at home. Now it’s the Penguins turn to play host. Can they return the favor to their pesky rivals?

The Philadelphia Flyers Can Win Because…

The Pens are struggling a little bit. Sure, the Pens have still won three of four but the reality is that they aren’t playing particularly crisp against winning teams. The Pens are now just 4-5 in their last nine against teams above .500. On top of that, they are battered and bruised with a ton of injuries as they’re playing without Kris Letang, Paul Martin Pascal Dupuis, Chris Kunitz and James Neal. The Pens forward units right now are basically Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and 10 guys they picked up from a shinny rink.

The Flyers have won three of four on the road and worth a shot with your sports picks given how big of a dog they are on the NHL odds.

The Pittsburgh Penguins Can Win Because…

Revenge will be sweet. Anyone who’s followed the Pens knows that they’re a team that plays far better at home than on the road. On the season, they’re just 20-16 on the road compared to 24-6 at home. In other words, home-ice advantage is a sizable factor in this one.

The Pens are 10-2 on the when revenging a loss versus an opponent. It’s not often that this type of team is shut out. They’ll be fired up to make amends for their lackluster performance on Saturday.

Outlook & Pick

The Pens should get revenge but it’s tough to bet them in this spot. Yes, they are a dominant home team but they are just 5-3 in their last eight at home with losses to the New York Rangers, Montreal Canadiens and Florida Panthers. The Flyers have some momentum and they’ll keep it rolling against the banged up Penguins.
