The Boston Bruins have upped their winning streak to 10 games. On Friday, they’ll get a tough test from a top-notch Western Conference foe when they visit the Colorado Avalanche, who are only five points worse than the Bruins in the NHL standings.

The Boston Bruins Can Win Because…
They are on cruise control these days. They’ve ripped off 10 straight wins and have ascended to the point where they are the clear-cut best team in the Eastern Conference. They’ve allowed just 15 goals in those 10 contests while scoring a whopping 41 themselves. That means they’ve outscored their opponents by a margin of 2.6 goals during this incredible winning streak.

The suffocating defense isn’t that surprising. Anyone who has been betting Boston with their NHL picks over the last couple of years knows this teams keeps things tight in their own zone. What’s impressive is the 4.1 goals per game. Prior to that, they had been averaging just 3.08 per game this season but when they’re doing numbers like that, they are tough to stop.

The Colorado Avalanche Can Win Because…
The Bruins have been mostly beating up on weak teams during their streak. When you take a look at who they’ve beaten – the New York Rangers, Florida Panthers, Washington Capitals, Tampa Bay Lightning, Florida Panthers, Montreal Canadiens, Phoenix Coyotes, Carolina Hurricanes, Minnesota Wild and New Jersey Devils – it becomes clear that the Bruins haven’t exactly played the toughest schedule during this winning streak.

They are just 6-5 in their last 11 against winning teams but in this spot, they’ll have to face a very good squad. The Avs are worth a look on the NHL odds – especially as a home dog. They are 23-13 at home this season.

Outlook & Pick
The Avs have lost three of four overall with their goaltending being the main concern. They’ve allowed 20 goals in those contests. With the Bruins offense still rolling and with a small price tag on this line, I’ll take a small shot with the B’s – especially since they’re 5-2 when on the road with a total of 5.5.

Pick: Bruins -113 at Pinnacle
