Time to move ahead to the weekend and after reviewing the sportsbooks choices for betting odds, seeing its Halloween, think I might have some scary good sports picks, at least that is the intent.

Yesterday was no trick or treat with NHL picks, it was all treats with a 3-0 sweep, leaving me at 11-6 in recent days. Let's not waste anymore more time and get to these choices.

In Battle of Goalies Nashville's Comes Out on Top
We have a matinee on ice today with Nashville at Los Angeles with a 1:00 local time start, with the L.A. Clippers getting the preferred evening slot at the Staples Center. The Kings have won six in a row and netminder Jonathan Quick has been a big part of their success  posting an 0.99 goals against average in winning his last five starts. As is the case with any great goalie, he also has the support of some very good teammates and Los Angeles is tied for third in fewest goals allowed at 2.0.

Nashville's Pekka Rinne has not been too shabby either with a 1.74 GAA in his eight starts, as his team makes its second stop on their four-game road trip. The Predators have won four of five and part of the reason they are 7-1-1 on the season is not letting the opposing team get off to a fast start, with Nashville yet to allow a first period goal.

In surveying at NHL odds at Wagerweb.ag, Nashville is a +115 underdog, and they are 5-0-1 versus the Kings the last few seasons and for as well has Quick has been in goal, against Nashville he is 2-9 SU with a 2.93 GAA in 12 career starts. The Predators won at San Jose 2-1 on Wednesday and are 16-4 after playing a game where three or fewer total goals were scored.

Penguins Too Much for Toronto
For Pittsburgh hockey fans, the Penguins 0-3 start as creepy as the "Blair Witch Project". Nonetheless, the veteran Pens have too much talent and have won six of seven. The same is not true Toronto, who has only one win on the season (1-6-2) and has lots of problems.

Since defeating Columbus 6-3, the Maple Leafs have only lit the lamp nine tines in next five contests, all setbacks. Their inability to take advantage of power plays has been a huge deal, with two goals in 23 tries, which is pathetic 8.7 percent, the worst in the league. Toronto goalie Jonathan Bernier is winless in six starts this season and has the same record against Pittsburgh at 0-4-2 in his career.

Conversely, the Pens Marc-Andre Fleury has been extremely sharp between the pipes with 1.50 GGA in his first six games. With Toronto off a 3-1 loss at the New York Rangers, this hockey handicapper finds Pittsburgh too inviting to pass up at -160 money line with the Leafs 3-18 off a road loss by two goals or more.

Edmonton Takes Advantage of Calgary's Defense
Right now, the Calgary Flames (2-8-1) defense makes their fans want to "Scream", just like the movie, having the worst defense in NHL, conceding 4.08 goals a game. You did not have to attend an Ivy League school to understand that this porous bunch forces the offense to score five times just to have a chance to win. It is not known if Joni Ortio will be back in net or if Karri Ramo will get the call, but right now regular Jonas Hiller cannot come back soon enough from his lower-body injury.

After an 0-4 start, Edmonton is 3-3 and each loss was to a good opponent and the Oilers last victory was over Montreal 4-3. Edmonton to has defensive conundrum, having surrendered 17 goals in four games. However, the Oilers defeated Calgary 5-2 two weeks ago and has further motivation , having lost five in a row on home ice to the Flames. For me Edmonton has been all tricks and not treats for these articles this season, but I will place my faith in them on Halloween and hop not to get spooked.
