We’ll be taking a look at tonight’s NHL encounter between Toronto and Minnesota. Our NHL betting preview article on this game concludes with a totals betting system which has won 65.3% of the time since 1996.

NHL Non-Conference Tilt on Friday between Leafs/Wild
The Minnesota Wild will host the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight at the Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul with the opening faceoff slated for 8:05 PM ET. The NHL betting odds at 5Dimes shows Minnesota as a -145 money line favorite, and the posted total to be 5.5. This will be the first meeting of the season between these clubs. They split the two meetings last season with the home team winning on each occasion.

Both Teams in a bit of a Funk
The Toronto Maple Leafs are coming off a much needed 4-3 overtime win over the Boston Bruins in their previous game which was played on New Year’s Eve. The win was just their second in the last seven games. Tonight will also be the Leafs the Leafs sixth in a stretch of seven consecutive games on the road. Toronto has allowed 3-goals or more in each of their previous three games. The good news is that they’ve gone 9-1 this season after surrendering three goals or more in each of their previous two contests.

The Minnesota Wild has gone a dismal 1-6 against the money line over their previous seven games. What’s been uncharacteristic for the Wild during their recent struggles has been their porous defensive play. The Wild have allowed 28-goals over the past seven games. That’s been highly unusual for a team which has succeeded during the past two seasons mostly due in part to their disciplined and staunch defensive play.

NHL Totals Betting System
The Toronto Maple Leafs enters tonight with a winning percentage of .552 this season, and the Minnesota Wild are currently at .486. This will be the Maple Leafs 3rd road game in the last 5-days. Both Toronto and Minnesota are still playing in the first half of their 2014-2015 schedules. The combination of these factors leads us to a very successful betting system, and we can utilize it in making one of our NHL picks for today.

Any team (Toronto) with a winning percentage of .510 to .600, playing in the first half of the season, and they’ll be paying their 3rd road game in 5-days, versus an opponent (Minnesota) which has a less than .500 winning percentage, has seen that team go under the total in 126 of those 193-games (65.3%) since 1996.

NHL Picks: Play on the Maple Leafs and Wild to go under the total of 5.5 at 5Dimes.
