Will the Rangers be able to get some revenge while running so hot? See what we think as we provide you our betting pick for tonight's matchup.
Ice time is set for 10:30 pm ET tonight at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. There is sure to be a ton of celebrities on hand and see this heated rivalry.
According to 5Dimes Sportsbook, it doesn't matter that the Rangers dominated Anaheim last night and are on fire as the Kings are a -160 betting favorite on the NHL odds and the total for the game is a mere 5 goals.
It's very early to get the starting goalies for this game as this is a late game, but from a reliable source, the Rangers are likely to go with Cam Talbot and as for Los Angeles, we don't know, but we'll have to assume that Jonathan Quick will be the Kings starting goalie.
Talbot will be happy with some offense and we should expect it as the Rangers average over 3 goals per game. He's 3-3-1 on the season with a 2.02 GAA, and .928 SV%. In limited time, Talbot has been fantastic, but of course most people would like to see Henrik Lundivist in net. I'm sure we'll see the King face the Kings somewhere along the way this season.
Not So "Quick"
The Kings allow just 2.5 goals per game and a big reason for this is the play of goalie Jonathan Quick. For the season, Quick is 16-9-7 with a 2.32 GAA and .908 SV%.
In his last game, Quick had a rare poor performance as he let up 3 goals on just 9 shots in less than 10 minutes and had to be pulled. Can bettors really have confidence picking Los Angeles especially at the odds provided? I think that odds makers are trying to entice the betting public into choosing the Kings against a Rangers team which has been dominant.
Redemption Time For Nash?it's b
Rick Nash comes into this game on fire. He's recorded goals in back to back games against Anaheim and Buffalo and he leads the team in points and has 25 goals in 37 games. Nash is on pace for a 50 plus goal season.
We all know the tough times that he had last season against the Kings in the Stanley Cup, not recording a single point. Quick is coming off just an awful game. If there was a time for some redemption for RIck Nash, tonight's the night, but easier said than done as Jonathan Quick is the type of goalie that can shrug off an awful performance.
Derick Brassard is another player to keep an eye on. He's scored a goal in 3 consecutive games and has 31 points in 35 games this season. I wouldn't be surprised if Brassard was a factor in this game.
The Kings are coming off of a 3-4 loss to Nashville in overtime, but I wouldn't expect a fraction of the offense that we saw in that game.Surprisingly, Dwight King scored 2 goals against the Predators and the Kings are hoping that the left winger can keep the momentum going. That said, it's highly unlikely that Kings will make an impact in this matchup; therefore take the Rangers as your NHL pick.
