Our expert NHL capper examines tonight’s game between Florida and Anaheim. Take the time to read this informative sports betting preview article which includes a NHL free pick on the total.

Panthers Invade the Duck Pond
The Ducks will host the Panthers today at the Honda center in Anaheim with the opening face-off slated for 8:05 PM ET. According to the NHL betting odds at 5Dimes, Anaheim is a -180 money line favorite, and the posted total is 5.0. These teams split their two meetings a season ago with both winning on home ice.

Honda Center a Haunted House for Luongo
The Panthers are listing Roberto Luongo as their probable starting goaltender for tonight. Luongo has struggled in his starts at Anaheim during his time with the Vancouver Canucks. He went 1-5 in 6-sarts with a horrible 5.04 goals against average. Luongo has started 12 of the Panthers first 14-games going 5-7 with a stellar .926 save percentage.

Anemic Offensively
The Florida Panthers enter tonight having played the fewest games in the NHL this season. They’ve gone 5-9 against the money line, and are averaging a paltry 1.9 goals per game which is ranks 28th in the NHL. Needless to say, going under the total in Panthers games has been a profitable bet since they’ve gone over the number in just 4 of the first 14. They enter tonight having lost 4 of their last 5, including a 4-3 overtime loss at home to the Islanders on Friday. Today will mark the 1st of a 4-game in 7-day road trip for the Panthers. They’ve gone 2-5 against the money line on the road so far, and 6 of those 7-games stayed under the total.

Working Overtime
The Anaheim Ducks have seen each of their previous 5-games go to overtime. Unfortunately, they were losers in 4 of those 5, the most recent of which came yesterday in a 3-2 road defeat versus the Kings yesterday afternoon. Entering today, Anaheim has seen just 1 of their last 14-games go over the total, and have also played on the low side of the number in 8 of the 9 at home. Frederik Andersen was the starter in goal for the Ducks on Saturday, and we’ll likely see Jason Labarbera tonight. The veteran journeyman backup has gone 1-1 in 2-starts this season. He was called up from the Ducks AHL affiliate after John Gibson sustained a groin injury that was expected to sideline him for 6-weeks.

Final Analysis
I’m going to take the initiative to ignore Roberto Luongo’s past struggles at the Honda Center when he was a member of the Vancouver Canucks. Both of these teams have been a very good bet on going under the total this season, and if it’s not broke then don’t fix it. The total in this game is what I’m using for one of my NHL picks today.
